PROBLEM:

The sign in window for Tekla Structures does not open. The user cannot start Tekla Structures using a Tekla subscription.

Symptoms:

The user's Tekla Online account at account.tekla.com belongs to the correct organization and has online license rights.

When the user runs Tekla Structures using the Tekla Online license option, the sign in window is not shown. Instead, Tekla Structures shows a message that the license is not available.

Work-around:

The user might be able to start Tekla Structures using a Windows user account that has administrator rights. Ensure that the user is using the same Tekla Online account that they registered with and that the account has online license rights. Also ensure that the license that the user is trying to use is not reserved on another device.

Troubleshooting steps:

If the work-around does not work, try the following troubleshooting steps.

IMPORTANT!

We strongly advise the user to ask the IT personnel in their organization to do these steps on behalf of the user. Doing the steps incorrectly can cause damage to the user's computer. The steps require the user to edit Windows registries.

We assume that the user is using a supported operating system for the Tekla Structures version that they are using. It is very important that the user is using a genuine Windows operating system and that all the important or critical Windows updates are finalized first.

Before you begin: If the user has a combination of Tekla Structures subscriptions and legacy on-premises licenses (FLEXnet licenses), deactivate any legacy on-premises licenses that are available on the same computer.

Step 1: On the user's computer, ensure that the system clock is correct.

The issue might be caused by a time-zone error. Check the settings in these two places in Windows 10 or Windows 11:

  1. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Date & time.
    1. Ensure that clock has the right time.
    2. Check when the last successful time synchronization was.
    3. If needed, click Sync now to synchronize the time.
  2. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region.
    1. Click Additional date, time & regional settings.
    2. Click Set the time and date.
    3. On the Internet Time tab, click Change Settings and change the server if needed.

Step 2: Uninstall Tekla Structures, then install the latest service pack

  1. In the Windows Control Panel, uninstall Tekla Structures and any Tekla Structures environments.
  2. Download the latest service pack and environments for your Tekla Structures version from Tekla Downloads. Click All downloads to see all available versions.
  3. Install the latest Tekla Structures service pack and environments in the C:\TeklaStructures folder using a Windows user account that has administrator rights.

Step 3: Change the registry value "LicenseServerSelected" to 2.
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Trimble\Tekla Structures\License.

After you change this registry value, Tekla Structures uses the Online license option and the account check is enabled.

Step 4: Delete the registry key in "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Trimble\Tekla Account"
