Tekla PowerFab glossary
- advance bill of materials
- a list of materials used primarily to reserve or purchase project material in advance of the final fabrication issue
- clamping allowance
- the area at the end of the bar that cannot be used due to the positioning of the clamps
- combining
- a process of material optimization helping to anticipate and minimize the scrap percentage and material waste
- cut list
- lists that inform machine operators what parts should be cut from sheets or bars based on material optimization
- estimate extra
- a highly flexible way of applying additional costs, labor, and formulas to estimated items
- future remnant
- material on a nesting layout that will become remnant after the cutting process
- grade
- the specific steel material quality designation assigned to a material shape
- heat number
- a number that provides information about the material's origin, quality, and compliance
- instance tracking
- the process of tracking the history of each individual instance of a part, even when there are multiple identical parts. Each instance is assigned a unique instance number, which is associated with sequence and lot numbers.
- kerf
- the material consumed by the saw blade as each cut is made
- labor code
- the primary used method within Tekla PowerFab's Estimating module for assigning fabrication labor hours and connection materials to estimate items. Labor codes group together specific fabrication actions (labor operations) along with formulas that automatically calculate the time required for processes such as burn, drill, punch, and weld
- load
- a batch of materials shipped to the same destination together, and often represent a trailer or container
- MTR
- mill test report, a test certificate linked to raw steel material and to material’s heat number
- mult
- a process that combines one-dimensional or linear items, such as beams and angles. It is used for materials that are cut to length along a single dimension.
- nest
- a process that combines two-dimensional items, such as plates or gratings. It is used for materials that are cut in two dimensions, optimizing the layout of parts on a sheet to minimize waste.
- parametric assemblies
- assemblies that can be defined with variables and added to an estimate, allowing Tekla PowerFab to calculate the assembly according to defined values
- piece tracking
- a process of tracking production progress by piece mark, that is, the unique identifier for a fabricated part or assembly
- route
- a specific list of stations that determines what work is required and the order in which it should be done in a particular set of circumstances
- sequence
- phase; a breakdown item used to divide large projects into smaller, more manageable subtasks for scheduling and tracking the completion of work
- shape
- a steel profile or family such as wide flange beams (W) and hollow structural sections (HSS)
- size
- a specific steel product within a shape, such as W 12 x 50 and HSS 4 x 4 x 1/4. Each size has a set of properties, such as pounds per foot, web and flange thicknesses, and cross-sectional area.
- squaring amount
- the amount of material lost when a squaring-off cut is made
- station
- a specific operation or area of the production workflow that you wish to record as each assembly or part passes through
- TFS
- taken from stock, the part has been cut and the material consumed
- transmittal
- cover sheets for attaching drawings for approval or fabrication/construction issuing
- work area
- a designated physical or logical subdivision within a larger workshop in Tekla PowerFab, primarily used in production planning and scheduling to define where specific tasks or resources are located and managed
- work package
- an entity used for organizing work or backlogs, often filtered by department or work area
- time tracking
- used to record actual hours (regular, overtime, double overtime) for visibility in schedule
- submittal
- packages of information submitted by the detailer via Tekla Connector for estimating, purchasing, or fabrication
