Troubleshooting tips for Multi-user problems
Check Service Release (SR) / Service Pack (SP)
Make sure that all users in the same multi-user model are using the same SR/SP of Tekla Structures, since using different SRs/SPs might cause problems, like conflicting advanced option values for example.
Opening dialogs is slow in multiuser
If network connection is slow and there are lots of system files in the network drive, opening dialogs may become much slower than when using system files located in your own hard drive.
To speed up the opening of the dialogs is to set XS_PROJECT to a local drive and move most of the system files there. Each user should naturally use the same files to ensure similar outcome.
Numbering speed issues
Adjusting the XS_SOLID_BUFFER_SIZE environment variable in Tekla Structures can give numbering speed improvements up to 20% saving.
Slowness in Saving
Saving in Multi-User mode can be slow for several reasons. Check your network connection speed, because it can slow down the saving process significantly. Check that your workstations comply with the latest hardware recommendations. Processor speed may have significant impact on how fast Tekla Structures can save the model.
During the saving process memory use is significant. 32-bit computers have 4GB of RAM, and a maximum of 3GB of memory can be used for the TS saving process. In 64-bit computers Tekla Structures is able to use all the available memory for the saving process.
The saving time may be shorter if you close down all the views of the model before saving. If you have a hidden reference model which you do not need anymore, you can delete it.
Error Messages
List of error messages that you may encounter in Multi-User mode can be found here.
Cannot save multi-user model
If you cannot save your changes to a multi-user model, check that antivirus software does not interfere with files in the Tekla Structures model folder. We have got reports that for example Kaspersky Security software (Kaspersky Internet Security) would by default prevent users to save their multi-user models.
In case you cannot save the multi-user model, despite "Database stored" is shown, try deleting corresponding xs_user.username -file under model folder.
With following steps you can try manual autosaving, if you cannot save the multi-user model and you see the error "Model could not be saved... ...Model is re-opened.":
- Write "autosave" in the Quick Launch box and press Enter. Status bar should have text Database autosaved.
- Try to save normally, confirm not possible, and then close Tekla Structures without saving.
- Start Tekla Structures, open model. Select Open Autosaved version.
- Try to save the multi-user model.
