New and enhanced library calculations (American Design)

The following engineering library calculations has been added or enhanced in Tedds 2026. (Note that some features documented below were included in previous updates to Tedds 2025.)

Steel beam torsion design (AISC360)

New calculation which determines the torsional forces on a beam subject to uniformly distributed torque loads and concentrated torque loads. The design of the torsional and normal forces are then checked against a selected steel section. The calculation can be used to check a steel beam subject to torque forces such as beams in a masonry support system, beams loaded eccentrically to the shear center, integral floor slabs or beams subject to eccentric loading during the construction phase. Design is in accordance with AISC Design guide 9 - Torsional Analysis of Structural Steel Members, AISC 360-22, AISC 360-16 and AISC 360-10 using either the load and resistance factor design (LRFD) method or the allowable stress design (ASD) method.

Column base plate design (AISC360)

Multiple enhancements offering more design flexibility. Enhancements include:

  • Allowance for anchor reinforcement design. Design checks for concrete breakout, tension and shear, can now be excluded to allow alternate design of anchor reinforcement or basic anchor reinforcement design checks can be incorporated into the calculation.

  • Design of outset anchors in tension from uplift, allowing more flexible bolt arrangements for columns under uplift.

  • Expanded design checks for shear lug design to include effects on anchor rods.

Anchor bolt design (ACI318)

Enhanced to allow for anchor reinforcement design. Design checks for concrete breakout, tension and shear, can now be excluded to allow alternate design of anchor reinforcement or basic anchor reinforcement design checks can be incorporated into the calculation.

RC column design (ACI318)

Major enhancements to this calculation make concrete column design even easier. New features include:

  • Reduced calculation time

  • Integration with the API and batch design spreadsheet

  • Easier navigation of the interface

  • Simultaneous capacity checks and interaction diagram production

Retaining wall analysis & design (ACI318/TMS/MSJC)

Enhancements to calculation to expand the capability and provide more flexibility including: design of propped reinforced masonry wall stems, design of propped walls with a single layer of reinforcement, and many more improvements.

2D analysis, Beam analysis, Steel 2D analysis & design (AISC360), Wood 2D analysis & design (NDS)

Enhanced to bring greater accessibility to member local deflections. It is now easy to view local member deflections in sketches and tables and include results in the output. Member deflection design can now be carried out for either global or local deflections depending on selection, where applicable.

The Design Member Configuration dialog is improved to provide more guidance and provide better default support definitions for common conditions.

Wood connection (NDS), Wood ledger design (NDS), Wood beam analysis & design (NDS), Wood member design (NDS), Wood shear wall design (NDS)

Enhanced to include design according to National Design Specification (NDS) 2024 and NDS Supplement 2024.

New verification examples

A verification example compares the results given by a specific Tedds calculation to published examples from trusted industry sources (AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.). The verification examples are provided to give you confidence that the calculations are accurate and reliable.
