Floor Analysis Model (FAM) properties

Note: The below properties are only displayed when the FAM is being edited

Entity type Select the entity type to add or remove:
  • Slab Item
  • Member Span/Stack
  • Facade Restraint - only available when Generate Facade Restraint is selected
  • Spandrel Beam - only available when Generate Spandrel Beams is selected
Selection Mode Determines what happens when you click on an entity of the selected type:
  • Add or Remove
  • Add Only
  • Remove Only
Generate Facade Restraint

When selected, facade restraints are created around the external perimeter of slab items in the current floor analysis model (FAM).

You can then add or remove individual facade restraints as required.

Generate Spandrel Beams

When selected, any beams around the external perimeter of slab items in the current FAM are marked as spandrel beams.

You can then add or remove spandrel beam markings as required.

FAM
Name The automatically generated name.
User Name Can be used to override the automatically generated name if required.
Design Guide The design guide on which the assessment is to be based.

Settings

The FAM settings set applied to this FAM.

Initially there will be a single settings set to choose from, generated from the Footfall Assessment Global Settings for the current design guide.

Note: You can configure additional settings sets as required. From the Footfall Analysis ribbon click Settings, then on the Settings Sets Management page, click Add.
FAM > Meshing
Slab Mesh Size

Defines the slab mesh size.

Applies to all 1-way slabs set to be meshed in the FAM Analysis Model Options.

Slab Uniformity Factor Defines the mesh uniformity. (Default = 50%, where 100% = maximum uniformity).

Applies to all 1-way slabs set to be meshed in the FAM Analysis Model Options.

Slab Mesh Type

Defines the mesh type for all meshed slabs in the FAM model.

The options are:

  • Quad dominant
  • Quad only
  • Tri only
Note:

The initial properties displayed in the below Footfall Checks sections default to values taken from the Footfall Assessment > (Design Guide) > Footfall Checks page in Global Settings.

When selected all modes below the Cut off frequency are considered.

The Cut off frequency is ignored and the number of modes specified here are considered in the footfall post processing instead.

Can be input as a single value or range and increment or series of values.
Walker's weight 76 (kg) 50 to 150 (kg) Walker's weight.
Length of walking path 30 m 0.1 to 100m

Used in the resonance build up factor of resonant response and in VDV calculations for both resonant and transient response.

Larger values result in conservative checks.

If not known, provide a reasonable max value for best results.

Length of stride 0.75 m 0.1 to 2 m Required for VDV
Damping ratio 3% 0 to 100% The design guidelines provide recommended values of the damping ratio if more accurate values cannot be estimated.

Axis of vibration perception Z X, Y, Z

In local coordinate system of the subject person.

Only ‘Z’ is available in the current release.
BS 6841 weighting curve Wb Wb, Wd, Wg The BS 6841 weighting curve used in the calculation of Weighting Factor, Wh, in resonant and transient responses.
Target vibration dose value (VDV) 0.2 0.1 to 2.0 The reciprocal of this value gives the number of times in a period that the target VDV is exceeded.
Consider VDV for Pass/Fail Off When selected, the pass/fail threshold is determined by the Target number of events in a period.
Target number of events in a period 1000 1 to 1000000 Defines the pass/fail threshold when ConsiderVDV for Pass/Fail is selected.
Target response factor, Rf 4 0 to 100 Unless Consider VDV for Pass/Fail is selected, the pass/fail threshold is determined by this value.
Acceptable hotspots Off

When selected a General limit, Rf value (default 2.0) is set.

Regions with Rf values between the general and upper limits will be given a warning status.

Overall Status & Envelopes
Mass Combination When displaying the overall status and envelopes choose whether to consider all footfall mass combinations, or an individual combination only.
Response Type When displaying the overall status choose whether to consider all response types, resonant only, or transient only.

Selecting 'None' excludes this FAM from overall footfall status consideration.
