Setting up the tool for a new formwork supplier

The configuration is done using comma-separated files (.csv), which can be edited with Excel or any text editor. Each formwork placing tool component for slabs has its own configuration. The configuration files can be located in any of the system folders or in the sub folder named 'Formwork tools' under the model folder.

After installing the latest version of the tools demo versions of the config files can be found in this folder: \Environments\common\system\CIP\

The configuration files are typically named by the formwork supplier or the product families. There can be any number of files, and the files are identified by a certain suffix:
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.SlabPanels.csv – Setup the formwork slab panels
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.Girders.csv – Setup the girders
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.Props.csv – Setup the prop parts in shuttering props
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.PropBases.csv – Setup the prop bases of shuttering props
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.PropHeads.csv – Setup the prop heads of shuttering props
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.StopEnds.csv – Setup the stop ends
  • xxxx.FormworkTools.Railings.csv – Setup the safety railings
Each of the files with a specific suffix controls one of the tools. The files contains a varying number of columns. The columns are named within the header line, which is the first line that is not a comment line.

Before the header line containing the column titles you can add one extra line:

DISTANCE_UNIT=MM

When the distance unit is defined using the above setting, all distance values can be given as decimal values in the specified units. The supported units are: MM, DN, CM, M, INCH, FEET

Configuring the railing custom parts for the railing placing tool (xxxx.FormworkTools.Railings.csv)

For a railing, you can specify four custom parts. The post and the shoe parts are placed along the input line with the start distance and spacing controlled by the user. The toe board and one or more guard rail parts are placed between two posts. If the toe board and/or the guard rail part is long enough compared to the post spacing, they may span over three or more posts.

Image

Column titleDescription
SupplierSupplier name, which is typically the same for all rows. These names will be listed in the 'Supplier' list.
FamilyFamily name, which will be shown in the ‘Family’ list.
NameThis is the railing type name. You can introduce multiple railings with the same name when you have two or alternatives with different lengths for the toe board and/or guard rail.

When you have alternative lengths for the toe board and/or guard rail, the placing tool will select the item automatically based on the post spacing.
MasterInputThis specifies the primary input when placing the railing. The alternatives are:
  • PanelTop: The first input is the slab panel component, and the the railing is fitted on top of the panels (this is the default if no other option is given).
  • SlabTop: The first input is the slab or pour top face.
  • SlabEdge: The first input is the slab or pour top face, and the railing location is snapped to nearest edge.
  • WallSide: The first input is the wall side face. The railing is fitted on the wall side face.
Note that if the .csv file does not contain any value, the default value PanelTop is used.
MainOffsetThis is the common offset of all items (post, shoe etc). The offset is a vector with components X, Y, Z given in the local coordinate system of the railing.
PostSpacingThis is the default spacing of the posts if you do not specify any spacing.
PostHeightThe height of the post.
ToeBoardOverlapThis is the minimum overlap of toe boards.
ToeBoardOverlapOffsetThis is the offset (X, Y, Z) of the toe boards when they are overlapping.
GuardOverlapThis is the minimum overlap of guard rails.
GuardOverlapOffsetThis is the offset (X, Y, Z) of the guard rails when they are overlapping.
GuardPositionsThe railing may include one or more rows of guard rails. This setting specifies the height (Z) positions of the guard rail parts measured from the input line. Multiple values must be separated by a space or colon and enclosed in parenthesis (450 650 850).
PostNameThis is the name of the custom part that will be inserted in the model.
PostAttributesThis is the attribute file (saved from component dialog) to be used when the custom part will be inserted into model.

PostDepthOffsetThis is the offset in depth. The default value is 0.
PostStartOffsetThis is the offset of the actual start point from the generic input point (1) in the local coordinate system. The offset is given as x, y and z values separated by a space or colon and enclosed in parenthesis (0 100 0). If no value is given, zero offset (0 0 0) is assumed.
PostEndOffsetThis offset specifies the location of the second input point (of the custom part) in relation to the first input point in the local coordinate system. The offset is given as x, y and z values separated by a space or colon and enclosed in parenthesis (0 100 0). If no value is given, zero offset (100 0 0) is assumed.

ShoeRotationOffsetThis is the rotation offset in degrees. The default value is 0.
ShoeDepthPositionThis is the ‘Position in depth’ to be used to insert the custom part in plane view. The options are MIDDLE, FRONT, BEHIND.
ShoeDepthOffsetThis is the offset in depth. The default value is 0.
ShoeStartOffsetThis is the offset of the actual start point from the generic start point in the local coordinate system. The offset is given as x, y and z values separated by a space or colon and enclosed in parenthesis (0 100 0). If no value is given, zero offset (0 0 0) is assumed.
ShoeEndOffsetThis offset specifies the location of the second input point (of the custom part) in relation to the first input point in the local coordinate system. The offset is given as x, y and z values separated by a space or colon and enclosed in parenthesis (0 100 0). If no value is given, zero offset (100 0 0) is assumed.

ToeBoardNameThis is the name of the custom part that will be inserted in the model.
ToeBoardAttributesThis is the attribute file (saved from component dialog) to be used when the custom part will be inserted into model.
ToeBoardLengthThis is the effective length of the toe board part.
ToeBoardInputOrderThis option controls how the final locations of the input points are set in relation to the default generic start and end points.

The possible option values are:
  • StartEnd: The default if no other value is speficied.
  • EndStart: Reverses the default start/end points.
  • CenterStart: The first input point is at the center of the start/end point and the second point is at the start point.
  • CenterEnd: The first input point is at the center of the start/end point and the second point is at the end point.
  • CenterLeft: The first input point is at the center of the start/end point and the second point is at the left point.
  • CenterRight: The first input point is at the center of the start/end point and the second point is at the right point.
  • CenterUp: The first input point is at the center of start/end and the second point is up from the center point.
  • CenterDown: The first input point is at the center of the start/end point and the second point is down from the center point.
Note that if the .csv file does not contain any value, the default value StartEnd is used.
