Tekla Structural Designer 2026 release notes
Welcome to Tekla Structural Designer 2026!
Highlights of Tekla Structural Designer 2026
Boost your productivity with Tekla Structural Designer 2026. This version introduces new analysis and design capabilities, enhances TrimBIM import, and incorporates a new AI-driven assistant.
New edge release options for meshed slabs
Apply moment (hinge) or vertical shear (sliding) releases to slab edges to accurately model panel boundaries and connections to adjacent elements.
Portal frame design to Eurocodes
Efficiently design portal frames within a new, dedicated 2D environment.
-
Execute elastic-plastic analysis with hinge history to produce highly efficient structural design solutions.
- Facilitate the automated layout of restraints and perform comprehensive stability checks along columns and rafters.
-
Rapidly generate full 3D models from 2D portal frames, including Hit, Miss, and Hipped End configurations.
TrimBIM Import Enhancements
TrimBIM Import, which automatically generates a connected, solvable model in Tekla Structural Designer directly from a Tekla Structures model, has been improved.
- 'Publish to Tekla Structural Designer' is now automatically available in Tekla Structures 2026 (as a Preview feature).
- You can now publish to the cloud from Tekla Structures and receive the model from the cloud in Tekla Structural Designer.
-
Utilize expanded material support to import concrete members, walls with openings, and slabs with openings, moving beyond the initial steel-only capability.
-
Streamline workflows by simultaneously importing the reference model overlay and the semantic model.
- Display the reference model overlay in 2D level and frame views. To control its display in these views, a new "Shadow layer" tab has been added to the Edit Model dialog,
Virtual joists and virtual joist girders
The joist design options for the US market now include virtual joists and virtual joist girders (from Tekla Structural Designer 2025 Service Pack 2 onward).
-
Utilize SJI-developed virtual joists and joist girders to facilitate custom truss modeling during early-stage analysis.
-
Access new "Virtual > Standard" and "Virtual > Girder" options directly within the Joist command.
-
Select from extensive SJI tables containing thousands of virtual section properties.
-
Perform Major Shear, Major Flexure, and standard deflection checks based on plated I-section beam logic (AISC 360).
Steel design to AISC 360/341 2022
For Tekla Structural Designer 2025 Service Pack 2 and later, steel design to AISC 360/341 2022 is now supported, enabling the design of rolled steel non-composite and composite members, plated members, and base plates to the latest US Standards.
-
AISC 360-22 incorporates additional slenderness checks for Axial Compression and updated terminology for critical stress.
- AISC 341-22 (Seismic) features revised seismic classification of sections, updated beam stability brace spacing limits, and new functionality to allow for the brace 'end to end' length when determining forces imparted to beams in SCBF at the coincident point of V and A braces .
New analytical center of mass and rigidity
A new, precise analytical approach for calculating CoM and CoR, replaces the previous estimated method from Tekla Structural Designer 2025 Service Pack 3 onward.
- Perform calculations for all "Modal Mass" and "Base Shear" combinations, regardless of diaphragm type (rigid, semi-rigid, or none).
-
Access comprehensive level-based reporting for roofs, slabs, diaphragms, floors, and the entire structure, (considering both mass distribution and structural stiffness).
-
Trigger analytical calculations via the new Calculate button on the Analyze ribbon. Results are displayed graphically and are accessible via the updated Scene Content window.

Trimble Assistant for Tekla
The User Assistant, an artificial intelligence (AI) chat service, (which was first released in Tekla Structural Designer 2025 Service Pack 2), provides quick access to technical information and personalized support directly within the interface.
