Anchor rods number differently but they are identical

Question-I modeled my anchor rods the same but when i number they come out with different part marks.

Answer- There are a few reasons why anchor rods could number differently. Below i will specify a few things to check

     1-The most common in previous versions of Tekla (pre 20.1) is orientation. When you have anchors that are oriented differently because the columns are rotated different Tekla will pick up on that unless you turn off "Column Orientation" in Numbering. See below



In Steel Detailing we do not want to number columns that have different orientations the same because of erecting purposes. So to prevent orientation from affecting these you can manually adjust the part rotation to match and then they will number the same. 

You can also clear the numbers of just the anchors and turn off column orientation in numbering. Once you have it off go back to Drawings & Reports > Numbering > and perform Number series of selected objects.

In Version 20.1 and forward we now have a new option that will prevent column orientation from affecting your anchor rods. First go to Tools > Options > Advanced Options then find the Numbering section. From here find the variable XS_EXCLUDED_PARTS_IN_ORIENTATIONAL_NUMBERING, this variable will allow you to put in part names of objects that you do not want orientation to be considered on when numbering. 

If you are in a newer version of Tekla and your column orientation numbering setting is still affecting your anchors you may have named them differently. Check the part names of the anchors and if they are different add the new name to the advanced option above and renumber the anchor rods. 

     2-The next common issue we see is base plates with the same length anchor rods but different size base plates. See below


When the base plates have different thicknesses this causes the welds on the anchor rods to be in different places. This is because the nuts and washers on the anchors will be at different levels which then means the welds are at different locations. Unfortunately there is no way around this issue, the only thing you can do different is move the anchors to match identically in projection and that would mean your drawing details would be incorrect.
