Cannot Open Remote Server Monitor After Updating to PowerFab 2023

The former program name, Tekla EPM, has been replaced with Tekla Power Fab in the 2023 release. for more information, see Tekla PowerFab replaces the name Tekla EPM.  

Depending on how you installed the program update (update or client installation) and where you installed the program (default pathway or custom location), it is likely that the installation created a new Tekla PowerFab folder containing your program files. The typical location for this new folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Tekla\Tekla PowerFab.

This new folder might present an issue, and you will need to make a couple updates to clear the errors you might be receiving when trying to start your Remote Server Monitor after the update. 

 

Updating the Remote Server Monitor Shortcut

The 2023 installation updates your PowerFab app shortcut on your desktop. If you have a shortcut for the Remote Server Monitor on your desktop, it is no long valid because it is pointed to the old file, Tekla.EPM.Remote.Monitor.exe. You will receive an error like this, "TEKLA.POWERFAB.COMMON.DLL was not found."

Though the error recommends reinstalling the program, this is neither necessary nor effective. You can update the shortcut by right-clicking on it, selecting properties, and pointing the target to the new file, Tekla.PowerFab.Remote.Monitor.exe, which can be found in the new Tekla PowerFab Program Files folder. You can also just delete the existing shortcut and create a new one for the correct file. This will allow the Remote Server Monitor app to run, but you will still need to update a setting to get your service working.

Updating the Remote Server Service

Once you are able to open the Remote Server Monitor you will likely receive an error like this:

Click the - (minus) button in the upper right of the Tekla PowerFab Remote Monitor to uninstall the remote server service.

Click Confirm to delete the service and then click the + (plus) button immediately to the left of the minus button. This will install a new remote server service. If the information does not populate and you need to manually enter it, the server dependency must match the MySQL service as seen in services. 

Once you have added the new service, ensure that a Trimble ID with appropriate licensing is logged into the Remote Monitor in settings and then start the service. If you are still having issues, please Contact support.
