How scribing affects DSTV and drawing workflow

Something that is unclear for me that I would like you to confirm.When using scribing in DSTV files it will affect numbering of elements. Am I required to run DSTVs before I make drawings just to get correct numbers on elements?
E.g. common workflow:
1. Create element
2. Number
3. Create drawing
4. Create DSTVs [this affect numbering if scribing is on]
5. Drawing changes might have occurred
Scribing workflow?:
1. Create element
2. Number
3. Create DSTVs [with scribing]
3. Number again?
4. Create drawings
Do I always need to run DSTVs before creating drawings and number multiple times to get the numbering correct? This is not intuitive in my opinion, but maybe Tekla Structures remembers that scribing is used once it has been set up?
Answer:
Tekla Structures is not reading anything from the DSTV files, when numbering or creating drawings, so basically the order does not matter, as long as pop marks/scribing settings are fixed before numbering and drawing creation. So it does not matter if the actual DSTV file exist or not, the main thing are the settings at the NC Files dialog box. Changing the pop-marking or contour marking settings is the same issue as changing the numbering settings. If you change numbering or scribing settings, the usual numbering command is typically not enough, but you need to use Diagnose & Repair Numbering: All command, otherwise the settings are not recognized in numbering.
This example shows how changing the pop mark settings affects the numbering:
Two othewise identical beams, but another has site studs. No drawings in the first place.
1. Number them: Both get part position b/1, because site studs are ignored if they are not pop-marked.
2. Now in NC file settings, check the Pop-marks option and define that you Add pop-mark centers of studs, save the settings and close the dialogs, but do not create yet the DSTV files.
You get this warning:
3. Number the model
- If you now run Number modified objects or Number series of selected objects numbering, both parts are still b/1
- But if you run Diagnose & Repair numbering, another part gets different number: b/2
4. Create the drawings and DSTV files.
So basically you need to fix the numbering and pop marking and contour marking settings at the beginning of the project and do not change them during the project. This way it does not matter if you create drawings or DSTV files first.
