Question:
How far from the origin can I place the model? The IFC model exported from Tekla Structures should be placed into other software where the model is some thousands of kilometers away from the origin.
Answer:
You always need to model the parts close to the origin in Tekla Structures. Do not use global coordinates. For example, put the building corner right to the origin, or use the site reference point as your model origin.
In the importer CAD software, the origin of the imported IFC model must be calculated to match with the model position in that software.
To easily find the reference point in different software, you can place a dummy object, for example, a red column in the site reference point in all the models.
