Question

How do I obtain the information reported in Check or Design Member within a report, as it appears to contain less detailed information. We are unable to provide a report to checking engineers without requiring a screencapture of the Check or Design Member dialog or for them to have access to Tekla Structural Designer to review the dialog themselves. Can the detailed information be provided in a report?

Answer

Reports are customisable and allow you to set a level from Critical (minimum detail) through to 9 (maximum detail). The value of the report level used when setting up the report controls the level of detail within a calculation report.

As an example, here is the Check Member for a bottom chord truss element with the calculations for Buckling combined highlighted. You can use the Expand all button to see all the calculation items.

Tekla Structural Designer 2017i Service Pack 3 has added some Report level information text to advise the report level that a particular calculation item exists within reports. As you hover over different items the report level indicated will change.

When generating member reports, for example by right clicking an item and selecting Report for Member from the context menu or including within Model reports. The detail of the report is controlled via the Member report contents button on the Report ribbon for each member type. Set the required Style as active and then within the Report Structure, right click Design Calculations and choose Settings.
Here you can set the level of report you require. To ensure the content highlighted in the screenshot above is shown, we need to set at least report level 4.

The item will then be included in the member report when generated.
