This custom component creates a composite slab on metal deck system where a series of standard width deck profiles are created within a defined area. The component also generates the required cuts in the selected slab below the decking.

The following metal deck types from the profile catalog are used when the associated deck type and gage are specified in the dialog:

The following parts should be modeled first:
  • Slab
  • Two support beams

Picking order:

1.    Pick slab
2.    Pick first support beam
3.    Pick second support beam, then click the middle mouse button to finish selection.
4.    Pick start edge of first deck
5.    Pick end of deck area along


Hint 1: More consistent results are provided if the first support beam is to the right of the second support beam and the range is applied along the first support beam as in the image.


Hint 2: If the slab disappears when applying the component, there could be a number of issues causing a solid error to occur:

  • The order of selection of members was not correct (going left to right vs right to left for example)
  • The decking was applied in multiple locations where the adjacent decking overlaps. Make sure the deck edge is pulled back at adjacent deck lines.
  • The decking was applied with an edge greater than the slab edge. Make sure the deck overhang is less than the slab edge.
