Purpose and description
This article is a technical support guide for the Tilt-Up form layout tool. This application is designed to assist in planning and coordinating the form layout process for Tilt-Up panels construction.
You will use this application to:
- Write and assign user-defined attributes (UDAs) to tilt panel cast-units.
- Insert form panels to represent where the panels are to be poured.
- Insert text labels on panels.
Installing
To install the extension:
- Download and run the Common modeling extensions *.tsep from the Tekla Warehouse.
- Download and run the Tilt-Up Form Layout *.tsep from the Tekla Warehouse.
Customizing
This sections reviews the configuration options prior to using the application to create objects or assign UDAs.
- Launch the application
Open the Tilt-Up form layout application from the model ribbon tab or the A&C catalog.
Configuration setup
Before manipulating properties in the table or inserting forms you need to set your preferred settings. Click on the settings icon on the right side pane of the application.

Here is further context about the general properties.
| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Filter | The selection filter ('Tilt-Up panel' in this example) controls which objects appear in the table. If you are creating the filter for the first time you may need to exit the application and reopen to view your filter. If the filter is changed press the Read from model icon in the top left corner of the application. |
| UDA 1 | This is a UDA intended to be used for the panel mark or panel order, e.g. P1, P2, P3. This UDA will be written to the assembly or cast-unit. ACN is the default value. |
| UDA 2 | This is a UDA intended to be used for numbering panels on individual building sides, or simply a sub-order numbering attribute. E.g. N1, N2, N3, ... , S1, S2, S3. |
| Mark | Template attribute to be used in the naming of the Items created in the shape catalog and will be visible in the table under the 'Mark' column. |
| Weight | Template attribute shown in the table under the weight column and will be used in text objects for the form panel and erected panel. There are options to format the weight for precision and the weight unit type. |
| Create panel button | This button will export IFC files to the local model folder and import those files into the shape catalog in one step. These shapes will be used as the geometry for objects created in the model space. |
Read from Model
Make certain the filter is working and the table will be filled with the correct objects. Press the Read from model button in the top left to load the objects into the table.

- Save settings
Once you are satisfied with these settings, press the Save button icon in the top right. You can locate this file by pressing the Folder icon and can be placed in a firm folder. The file name issettings.TiltUp.jsonand cannot be changed.
- Create form shapes
It is important to have the Mark property from step 2 finalized since that will affect the Item's profile name in the shape catalog. For context, the items created will all have the same prefix (TILT_PANEL_) followed by the mark template attribute. E.g. if the CAST_UNIT_POS is W4 the profile would be TILT_PANEL_W4.
In the general section in the properties side pane of the application, press the Create Panels button to export the cast units as IFC files and generate the shapes for the shape catalog.

Workflow
This section will describe how to use the table and insert components from the application. Please review the steps and notes from the Customizing section prior to following along in this section.
UDAs
The columns labeled with headers UDA 1 and UDA 2 can be modified in the table. If you want to write these attributes to the model objects, press the Write to Model button. If you want to discard changes, press the Read from Model button or close the application.
You can also lock or unlock the text boxes in those columns by pressing the lock icon. This is an attribute saved to the settings file and will be preserved when reopening the application. Use these locks/unlocks when you have finalized these attributes to prevent modifications.
Inserting panel components
You can insert form panels from the table. This inserts a plugin (Tilt-Up Form Panel) into the model that uses an input part and two (2) points to position the form. The form can be moved after insertion.
If you press the (+) icon in the header that will create forms for all panels that do not have a form in the model. If you press the (+) icon in a row, only that form panel will be inserted. The image below is pointing to those icons.
In the settings menu for Form components, you can define attributes for the inserted plugin.
Inserting text components
This application also can insert labels on the Tilt-Up panels you have modeled, i.e. separate from the form panel plugins. To insert text labels, go to the settings menu on the right and press the Create Text button to insert text objects on all of the filtered objects. The settings allows you to set an attribute for the component.
To control the format of the text, open the 3d text tool (included in separate TSEP package) and load the Tilt-Up-Template-01 or Tilt-Up-Template-02 attribute. The way this works is that if [Number], [SubNumber], or [Weight] is included in the text phrase, those will be replaced with the actual values used from the Tilt-up application.
Updating Components
After inserting form components or text components, you may update the attributes. In other words, the labels in the model might be out-of-date if you change the ACN of a panel from 1 to 3. If you press the Refresh button in the top left of the application, this will modify and update all components inserted using the application.
