Using Surface generation between polybeams
To use the application:
- Open a Tekla model.
- Click the
Applications & components button in the side pane to open the Applications & components catalog. Search forImage
Surface generation between polybeam and then double-click to open it.Image
Image
-
Create two polybeams (they don't have to be similar). Minimum of 8 points are needed.
Image
-
Select the first polybeam.
Image
- Select the second polybeam.
After you select of the second polybeam, the component is automatically created.Image

General tab
Use General tab to select the surface attribute file to be used by the Surface generation between polybeams component.
| Option | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| (1) | Attribute file - List to select the attrbute file of the surface. | standard |
Parameters tab
The Parameters tab can be used to define the the points of the surface created by the Surface generation between polybeams component.
| Option |
Description |
Default |
|---|---|---|
| (1) |
Number of extra points - Define whether extra points are automatically created between the points of each polybeam to smoothen the plates. For example:
|
1 |
| (2) |
Method to calculate extra points - If the curved plates form an arc, define whether the arc is taken into account for extra point calculation. Available options: - First order - this option does not take the arc into account for extra point calculation. Image
- Third order - this option takes the arc into account, and the extra points are placed in the same arc as the original points. Image
- Cardinal spline total length - this option uses Cardinal spline interpolation over all points. - Cardinal spline in middle - this option uses Cardinal spline interpolation only for middle points. |
First order |
| (3) | Smoothness spline 0 1 - Define the smoothness for the selected option from (2) Method to calculate extra points list. | 0.5 |
| (4) | Coplanar distance - Define the coplane distance. | 0.1 |
Plate tab
The Plate tab can be used to define general properties of the surface created by the Surface generation between polybeams component.
| Option | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| (1) | Plate - Define the thickness of the surface. | 10.00 |
| (2) | Part Pos_No - Define a prefix and a starting number for the part position number. | b_1001 |
| Assembly Pos_No - Define a prefix and a starting number for the assembly position number. | A_1 | |
| Material - Define material grade. | S235JR | |
| Name - Define a name that is shown in drawings and reports. | PLATE | |
| Class - Define the class. | 99 | |
| (3) |
Offset - List to define the on plane offset type of the surface using the offset value from the Offset value box. Availble options: - Standard - Middle - Front - Behind |
Standard |
| (4) | Offset value - Box to define the on plane offset value. | 0.00 |
| (5) |
Join plates - List to define how the plates are connected to each other. Availble options: - No - Option to create single assemblies for each plate of the surface. - Welding - Option to weld all the plates of the surface. - Part add - Option to create one assembly for all the plates of the surface. |
