PEB Steel line allows you to create a steel line and reference lines for a particular bay or for the entire building.

How to locate

The installers are available at Pre-Engineered Building Tools for Tekla Structures version 21.0 and above.
After the installation, the icon shown below is available in the Applications & Components.

Usage

Input for this extension:

Pick two points. The first point determines the insertion point. The second point determines the direction of the steel line frame.

Parameters

Define the steel line shape, sizes, type, reference lines, interior column lines.

Steel line shape

Select the steel line shape from the list. You can change the ridge location, eave height and building width here.

Geometry

You can define other heights by either entering height values or by giving a slope based on the option selected.

Steel line type

OptionDescription
Image
SteelLineType_ConstructionLine.png
Construction line. This is just for model reference. It is not coming to the drawing since it is construction line.
Image
SteelLineType_Part.png
Part with profile ROD1 and default name Dummy and material Concrete_Undefined. This comes to the drawing as well. Name and Material can be changed if needed.

Note:
  1. If the option is construction line, a small dummy part is created near the first bay steel line. This is a limitation to use construction line as steel line.
  2. In both options, take care to use proper filters to avoid dummy parts from reports, BOM etc.

 Reference lines

Reference lines can be switched on/ off using yes/no options. This helps you to snap easily while inputting the PEB Member for rafter or column. Reference lines are always construction lines. After modeling, these reference lines can be switched off if not needed.

Define the rafter and column reference lines. Rafter and column offset can be defined separately. Grout line can also be defined here.

This is useful when the right wall offset is different from the left wall.

Reference point

OptionDescription

Image

Reference point is at steel line left corner

Image

Reference point is at left column reference beginning

 Interior column reference lines

Define the interior column reference lines here. Select Yes/No to switch on/off. Enter the distance list for spacing. The first distance is from the left steel line.

Splices

You can define the splice positions on this tab. This helps you to find the snap points for PEB Member input. If the splice position is not required for snapping, keep the respective option boxes empty.

Building parameters

You can create steel lines for the entire building on this tab.

Creates steel line for building bottom periphery. Construction (reference) lines for intermediate bays based on distance list. This can be useful when a different frame combination comes in the same building. Use this option for bottom periphery steel lines, eave and ridge lines. Repeat the plugin with the first option in each bay to complete the entire building (in this way, you can control the individual bay steel line properties separately).

Lines

You can control the colors of the steel line and reference line on this tab. If the steel line type is part, the Class option is enabled for entering a class value. In all other cases use the Color option to change the color of all construction lines.

Tips

How to make steel line for multi-gable buildings?

Model the steel line for the first gable and then model the steel line for the second gable adjacently by re-applying the plugin. If reference lines are required, for the first gable make the right wall offset zero and for the second gable left wall offset zero to meet the right side and left side gable rafter at a common point.
Example:

Similarly, you can create any frame combinations.
