The plugin can create the following knee types:
  • Horizontal
  • Vertical
  • Parallel to rafter
  • Parallel to column

Components

The following parts are created:

  1. End Plate
  2. Cover Plate
  3. Knee Plate
  4. Web Stiffener
  5. Outer flange Stiffener
  6. Inner flange Stiffener
  7. Knee Stiffener
  8. Diagonal Stiffener
  9. Eaves Stiffener

The parts are numbered in black in the dialog box image.

There are two plate length types: one is by total length and the other is projection.
The distances are numbered in red in the dialog box.

  1. Projection of rafter from the cover plate
  2. Cover plate top from the rafter flange
  3. Projection of the end plate from the web of the column
  4. Total length of the plate
  5. Projection of the end plate from the web of the column

Note: When Total Length is selected, distance box 3 is not available. When Projection is selected, distance box 4 is not available.

Parts

Various parts parameters can be changed from here. If plate profile name is default, it reads from
Menu > Settings > Options > Components > Profile Names > Plate.
The same profile name is applicable for stiiffeners also.

The parts are shown in the image on the left:
  1. End Plate
  2. Cover Plate
  3. Knee Plate

End plate

You can define end plate properties such as width and thickness.

Cover plate

Image
2015_08_18_06_50_463.png
There are two ways to define the cover plate width: one automatically calculates the width from the column/rafter flange width and the other is width defined by the user.

Thickness

Image
2015_08_18_06_51_254.png
There are two ways to define the cover plate thickness: one automatically calculates the thickness from the column/rafter flange thickness, and the other is thickness  defined by the user.

Knee plate

Knee plate creation is controlled with a Yes or No option.
You can define properties such as thickness for the knee plate.

Note: When the Knee plate option is set to Yes, a knee plate is created and shown only after the rafter member is updated.

Bolts

User field 8 is for additional information about bolts. The value is shown in the bolt UDA of Bolt User Field 8.

Knee stiffener

Image
2015_08_18_07_52_0026.png

Select Yes in (7) Knee stiffener to create a knee stiffener.

Knee stiffener type

Image
2015_08_19_05_01_191.png
Knee stiffener types:
  1. Perpendicular to the flanges of the rafter
  2. Perpendicular to the end plate
  3. Parallel to the column flange

Thickness

Image
2015_08_19_05_02_052.png
There are two options for thickness: one to calculate the thickness from the column flange automatically, and the other is width defined by the user.

Length

Image
2015_08_19_05_02_393.png
Stiffener length:
  1. Total length of the stiffener to the rafter depth
  2. Length with clearance from the top flange
  3. Length defined from the end plate

Width

Image
2015_08_19_05_03_254.png
Stiffener width:
  1. Calculated from the flange
  2. Calculated from the end plate
  3. User-defined

Diagonal stiffener

Image

Diagonal stiffener controlled by a Yes or No option.

Image
2015_08_19_05_04_216.png
Location of diagonal stiffener:
  • First option is based on the offset from the diagonal points.
  • Second option is based on the minimum clearance from the nearest faces of flanges / end plate / cover plate / knee stiffener.

Eaves stiffener

Eaves stiffener creation controlled by a Yes or No option.

Additional stiffeners can be detailed in the 4 web stiffener section.

Additional information

  • Update the column and the rafter (PEB Members) after applying or modifying the connection.
