1.  Purpose and description

This is a plugin component able to create “U” shaped edge reinforcement by using bent meshes.

The number of created meshes and maximum length of each created bent mesh depends on the length of the standard mesh in the catalog. If the last mesh would not have at least two crossing bars the length of the first mesh will be half of the standard mesh length.

Environments:                         Any

3.  Installation

To install the extension:

  1. Download the zipped msi-file. Make sure to download the package compatible with your Tekla Structures version.
  2. Extract the zip package
  3. Right click the msi-file and select option “Install” or just double click the file
  4. Follow the instructions

4.  Usage

To use the extension:

  1. Click the component “Edge Reinforcement  With Meshes” in the component catalog.
  2. Pick part, typically a wall or slab kind of part.
  3. Identify the edge by picking the start and end points at the edge reinforcement.

Please note that the meshes are created between the two picked points which might not be the full length of the edge (see Figure 1).

5.1. Tab page ‘Parameters’

Image
EdgeReinforcementWithMeshes_image003.jpg

In this tab page you are able to set all dimensions and other main information used to control the creation of the meshes.

These are the start and end offsets for first and last meshes.

Please note that the end offsets are measured from picked input points and not from the actual end of the edge.

This is the free space between two meshes when two or more meshes are needed.

In some cases when either the first or last mesh is not a full length mesh and the length has to be adjusted to avoid mesh cut at cross bar location the tool may need to use slightly smaller free space that is given on the dialog.

Here you can give the cover thickness and the leg lengths for the mesh.

If only one leg length is given the other one will be equal to given one by default.

Please note that the cover thickness at top is measured from picked input points and not from actual edge.

Location of longitudinal bars

With this setting you can control on which side of the bent (=crossing) bars the longitudinal bars are placed.

When longitudinal bars are placed outside all cover thickness values are measured from outermost longitudinal bars.

Mesh, Grade, Select

Image

Here you can type the mesh catalog name and grade or you can click the button ‘Select’ to open the mesh catalog browser dialog.

After you have selected the mesh from catalog tree and clicked the ‘OK’ button on the mesh catalog browser dialog the fields ‘Mesh’ and ‘Grade’ will be filled with selected values.

Please note that only catalog meshes can be used. Any values given for the “custom mesh” will not be used by this tool.

Bending radius

Here you can give the bending radius for mesh bending.

5.2. Tab page ‘General settings’

In this tab page you are able to set remaining properties of the meshes.

PropertyDescription

Prefix

This is the numbering prefix for all created meshes.

Start number

This is the numbering start number for all created meshes.

Use mesh catalog name

With this setting you can control which value will be applied to mesh name.

When the option ‘Yes’ is selected the mesh name will be equal to mesh catalog name and you will not be able to fill in anything into the field ‘Name’.

To give another name for the mesh select option ‘No’ when you can give whatever name for the mesh.

Name

Here you can give the mesh name. Please note that this field is enabled and will be used only when the value ‘No’ is selected for above field.

Class

Here you can give the class for all created meshes.
