Tool Design Group Numbering  (ML002) can be used to assign element numbers to objects once using a Tekla Structures configuration without the numbering option (Graphite of Carbon).

E.g. doing foundation pile plans and cladding, this tool will be used a lot.

Use for

Perform a kind of numbering, think about foundation pile plans and cladding. This tool is limited compared to the full numbering option in Tekla Structures Diamond.

Before you start

Open a Tekla Structures model and make sure that Tekla Structures is only opened once.

Selection order

No parts have to be selected.

Click on the button Add group to add a new line.  Select in column Group Filter the filter to be used. These selection filters can be added or you can modify an existing one.

Define the Prefix and a Start number.

In the column Compare Length you can define what has to be taken into account once the numbers are assigned.

  • Yes: The length of the parts are compared. Parts having the same profile and same length do get the same number. Parts having the same profile, but different lengths will get a different number.
  • No: The length of the parts will not be taken into account. Parts having the same profile, but different lengths will get the same number.
  • LENGTH_GROSS: Same results as using the option Yes (LENGTH) but instead LENGTH_GROSS will be used. So the yellow start point and the magenta end point are taken into account, cuts and fittings are ignored. This can be used in cladding doing a front view with trapped plates.

A Length tolerance can be defined and will be taken into account once comparing.

A Number separator, the separator to be used between Prefix and Number.

Number with letters: whether to use a letter or a number after the prefix.

Compare UDA: a difference between UDA's should be taken into account, Yes or No.

The UDA's taken into account: Comment2, Dowel length, Top Foundationpile and Pile bottom diameter.

Compare Finish: difference in Finish should be taken into account or not.

Once using this tool for the first time, always choose the option "Yes" at Renumber All.

This tool does not replace the full numbering in Tekla Structures Diamond! Especial adding profiles there is no comparison so there is no check with the previous numbered profiles having already a Engineering number.

In case of small changes we strongly recommend to manually change the UDA "ENG number" for the changed or added profiles.
If possible please use the Renumber All option.

Start using the numbering by clicking the button Assign numbers.

The UDA "Engineering assembly number" will be added by the tool:

A report containing more information can be generated using the Create Report button. The report "id_design_group_nummering.rpt" will be created having the standard id report functionality.

Tool settings can be stored. A folder will be created with the name "Settings" in the model folder. In case you want the settings to be available in all models, use the regular way to do so.

Once you copy a profile having this Eng number assigned, the copy of the profile will not contain this number.

The rules with filters, prefix, start etc. should not be removed during a project. This just to avoid unnecessary results.
In case you remove a line, next numbering session the assigned numbers are removed!!!

At the drawing you of course want to see the numbers, this can be done using "DESIGN_GROUP_MARK":
