When trying to use a Tedds 2020 Trial license how can I resolve the error "You cannot use this license. The license has been activated on another device"?

Issue

When trying to launch Tekla Tedds 2020 using a Trial license, the Software License Manager dialog automatically appears and the status reported is “You cannot use this license. The license has been activated on another device”. 

When viewing your online Tekla Account profile the Tekla Tedds Trial license listed in the My Licenses section reported the error “You cannot use this license. The license has been activated on device XXXXX-XX with a different Trimble Id.” where XXXXX-XX is the device name of either your device or a device you do not recognise.

Explanation & Resolution

Trial licenses can only be used on the device where they are first used.  Once you have successfully used the license on a specific device, if you attempt to use the license on a different device this error will be correctly reported.
However, if you downloaded the Tedds 2020 Trial before April 29th 2020 you may have a version of the software which incorrectly reports this error message the first time you attempt to use your trial license.
