The Tekla Tedds Integrator is an extension for Tekla Structures which allows you to link Tekla Tedds documents to your Tekla Structures model. You can link existing documents or create new documents which you or other Tekla Structures users can then easily modify or review during your BIM workflow. For information on using the Tekla Tedds Integrator refer to the Tekla Tedds Integrator User Guide.

Version 4.0 of the Tekla Tedds Integrator will benefit Structural Engineers and Steel Detailers who want to check whether simple steel connections modelled in Tekla Structures satisfy the design code requirements for Eurocode design. Version 4.0 also includes new capabilities which make it easier to integrate custom Tedds calculations with Tekla Structures. For information on creating your own integration between Tekla Structures and Tekla Tedds calculations refer to the Tekla Tedds Integrator Reference Guide.

Steel Simple Connection Design Integration

When creating a new Tedds design, if the selected component in the Tekla Structures model is a steel connection component the Tekla Tedds Integrator will identify the connection component and start a new design using the Tedds “Steel simple connection design (EN1993)” calculation, if the Tekla Structures component is one of the following:

  • Component Number 103 - Shear Plate
  • Component Number 118 - Two sided shear plate
  • Component Number 144 - End plate
  • Component Number 142 - Two sided end plate

Video demonstration

The Geometry information from the steel connection component will be automatically transferred to Tedds and will include:

  • Steel material grade
  • Steel section profile for the connected beam(s) and/or column
  • Notches
  • Plate size
  • Bolt arrangement
  • Welds

Once the Tedds design is created you should verify the configuration of the connection is as expected and then you can manually enter the design shear and tying force to complete the design.

Integrating Custom Tedds Calculations

The Tekla Tedds Integrator can be used to link your own custom written Tedds calculations to specific structural elements in your Tekla Structures models. When writing such an integration the first challenge is to identify the properties of the Tekla structures part or component which you want to transfer to the Tedds calculation. Version 4.0 of the Tekla Tedds Integrator includes several improvements which makes this easier.

New Object Browser

The object browser allows you to view the named property values for a part or component in your Tekla Structures model so that you can determine which properties to use when transferring the data to a Tedds calculation.

Select a part or component in your model and then open the Object Browser from the Tekla Tedds Integrator’s Tools command. The Object Browser window will show you the name of the selected object followed by a list of all the object's properties including:

  • API properties
Properties of the object which are accessible via the Tekla Structures open API.
  • User Defined Attribute (UDA) properties
Properties of the object which are defined as User defined attributes.
  • Tekla Tedds Integrator properties
Properties of the object which are defined by the Tekla Tedds Integrator. These properties are extensions to the normal Tekla Structures open API which make it easier to write integrations between Tekla Structures and Tekla Tedds.

New Options Dialog

Existing options which were previously only available by manually editing a “.config” file can now be modified via this new dialog.

The dialog includes options for:

  • Enable logging
Operations performed by the Tekla Tedds Integrator are recorded in a plain text log file which you can use to diagnose integration problems.
  • Delete log file on close
The log file for the current session will be deleted when Tekla Structures is exited.
  • Timestamp log entries
When logging is enabled the information for a single entry in the log file is prefixed with a date and time stamp.
  • Display log when mapping errors are encountered
If an error occurs when data is being transferred between Tekla Structures and Tekla Tedds the log file will be shown automatically.
  • Open log folder
Open Windows File Explorer at the location where log files are stored.
  • Reload all data files before performing each integration
When creating or modifying the Identity Provider files and Data Provider files for an integration enable this option so that those changes are automatically loaded the next time you attempt to create a new Tedds design.
  • Open system provider files folder
Open Windows File Explorer at the location where the Identity Provider files and Data Provider files which are included with the Tekla Tedds Integrator are stored.
  • Open user provider files folder
Open Windows File Explorer at the location where the Identity Provider files and Data Provider files for your own custom integrations are stored.

The Tekla Tedds Integrator version 4.0 can be downloaded from the Tekla Warehouse.
