How to prevent numbering problems

We are dealing with numbering problems quite frequently in support, especially in multi-user models.

In several cases we have found out that the following settings have not been used:

  • Synchronize (save-numbering-save)
  • Diagnose & Repair numbering: All command is run on regular basis

If these two are used, majority of the numbering problems should be prevented. We are still strongly recommending the use of synchronize. Especially if you combine the ignoring the synchronize and not repairing a numbering on a regular base, it will certainly run into serious problems with wrong numbering results. We do not know any problems relating to synchronize other than the long time it requires. Without Synchronize two users are able to make drawing from same part but with different number and edit the drawing as they both like. When numbering is then repaired, the other one of the drawings will become ”orphan” and the work is lost.

Repair numbering command has been in Tekla Structures since version 16.0 and it replaced the old full numbering command. Repair numbering is comparing parts and their numbers more thoroughly than the conventional numbering in the Drawings&Reports menu. Repair numbering should be run regularly and always before creating drawings and when changing numbering settings, including changing the pop-mark or contour marking properties in NC Files dialog box.

To overcome the problems that some users forget to repair numbering, in the Tekla Structures 2016 version, we have this new advanced option to run repair numbering when you select the conventional numbering command: XS_USE_REPAIR_NUMBERING_INSTEAD OF_NUMBERING
