Check solid errors

When working with Tekla Structures, you may encounter errors in solid objects in the model. You can use the Solid checker tool to check the model for solid errors. You can also view solid errors in a log file.

For example, when working with cast-in-place concrete parts, you should inspect the resulting pour objects regularly before starting the detailing process and before creating drawings and reports. Errors in solid pour objects can result in incorrect volumes, for example.

Check the model for solid errors using Solid checker

  1. Go to the File menu, and click Diagnose & repair > Check solids.
  2. In the Solid checker dialog, click Check solids.

Tekla Structures lists the errors, along with the objects causing them, in a table.

  3. Select an error row in the table to highlight the error in the model.

You can also highlight individual objects by clicking their identifiers in the table.

  4. To zoom in on a problematic object in the active model view, select the Zoom to selected checkbox and click the object's identifier.
  5. To fix an error in the model, you can try the following methods:
    • Modify touching part faces to either overlap fully, or not intersect at all. Moving the faces along their normal direction by a few millimeters (0.3 mm or more) is enough.

    • Move problematic parts slightly.

    • Model parts in a different order.

  6. To see the updated situation, click Check solids again to refresh the list of errors.

When an error has been resolved, its status changes to Fixed on the list.

  7. If you do not want to fix an error, you can click Ignore error on the error row to hide it from the list.

To see the ignored errors on the list again, select the Show ignored errors checkbox.

View solid errors in a log file

You can view solid errors in a log file. This may be needed, for example, if overlapping volumes and faces occur for parts and pour objects, and you need to analyze the error.

This is an older, alternative method to using the Solid checker tool.

  1. On the File menu, click Logs > Session history log.
  2. Look for rows that start with the phrase Solid error.
  3. Click the corresponding Solid failure position row to show the solid object error.

A diamond-shaped position locator is displayed in the model to point you to the error.

    Tip:

When you click a Solid error row in the log file, hold down the z key to center the view to the error location.

  4. Redraw the view to hide the position locator.
