Autodesk Revit (Preview)
Autodesk Revit is BIM software for designing buildings and infrastructure in 3D. It is used to design, document, visualize, and deliver architecture, engineering, and construction projects. In Tekla Structures, you can import from and export to Autodesk Revit in .cxl format. The information transferred includes physical information, such as geometry, section sizes, and material grades.
Tekla Structures 2026 introduces the CXL integration with Autodesk Revit as a Preview feature. To find out more, see Preview features in Tekla Structures.
To transfer models between Tekla Structures and Autodesk Revit using .cxl files, use the following commands on the Tekla Structures File menu:
The integration process allows you to pass models between Tekla Structures and Autodesk Revit, allowing updates in the model at both ends. As the model is integrated between the software applications, changes are updated, and modifications performed since the last export operation are maintained within the model.
The initial model can be started in either Tekla Structures or Autodesk Revit, depending on the project needs. You can import and export many times, and make use of the effective change management functionality.
We recommend using the Tekla Structures model as the main model for all geometrical changes. Alterations made to the model geometry are best handled by modifying the Tekla Structures model and transferring the changes to Autodesk Revit.
For more information about the integration between Tekla Structures and Autodesk Revit, see Tekla Structures and Autodesk Revit - CXL format guidance documentation.
