Export a model to Tekla Structures

To export a model to Tekla Structures, see the following instructions.

  1. Create your model in the usual way.
  2. Prior to running the export you can control which levels will be included by setting Include in export as required in the Level Properties. This allows individual levels to be:
    • only included if the level is a floor
    • always included
    • never included
  3. Ensure that in Model Settings > Structural BIM > Export, the settings are as you require.
  4. On the BIM Integration tab, click Tekla Structures Export.

    The BIM Integration wizard opens.

  5. On the first page, click Next.
  6. Adjust the location and rotation of the model, and click Next.
  7. Select the items that are included in the model, and click Next.
  8. Specify the export names of material grades, and click Next.
  9. Specify the file name and location.
  10. Select whether the file is exported for the first time, or whether you want to update an existing model.
  11. Click Finish.
  12. Start Tekla Structures and open the file to see your project.

Note:

Our integration links with Tekla Structures are always evolving and part of this is the use of the Tekla Structural Designer API to transfer model information.

For models containing designed rebar intent, it is not necessary to perform the process Tekla Stustures Export. Instead the '.tsmd' format model file can be directly integrated into Tekla Structures.

The advantage of this process is that rebar objects will be created to suit the design intent using our Tekla Structures rebar set technology.
