Question:
Is there a limit to the number of assemblies you can create a 3D view of using the assembly select switch ?
Tekla Structures seems to miss assemblies off over a certain limit.

Answer:
Yes there is a limit. This relates to the advanced option XS_HIDE_OTHER_PARTS_IN_ASSEMBLY_AND_CAST_UNIT_VIEWS=TRUE. When it is set to TRUE, Tekla Structures uses assembly or cast unit ID numbers to filter out irrelevant parts. The problem is that the filter string can only be 1024 characters long. The filter string in this case contains all the selected assembly id's, for example
13696 13683 13670 13657 13644 13631 13618 13605 13592 13579 13046 13033 13020 13007 12994 12981 12968 12955 12942 12929 12916 12383 12370 12357 12344 12331 12318 12305 12292 12279 12266 12253 11733 11720 11707 11694 11681 11668 11655 11642 11629 11616 11603 11590 11070 11057 11044 11031 11018 11005 10992 10979 10966 10953 10940 10927 10420 10407 10394 10381 10368 10355 10342 10329 10316 10303 10290 10277 10264 9770 9757 9744 9731 9718 9705 9692 9679 9666 9653 9640 9627 9614 9601 9107 9094 9081 9068 9055 9042 9029 9016 9003 8990 8977 8964 8951 8938 8457
and if there are more than 1024 characters in the string then the latest id's are not used and not all selected assemblies are included in the view.
