American Design

Product bulletin September 2025 (PBT-2509-3)

Masonry panel design (TMS/MSJC) - Corrected a potentially un-conservative error affecting the analysis results for walls with seismic combinations after changing wall details. For more detailed information please refer to Product bulletin September 2025 (PBT-2509-3).

Steel beam torsion design (AISC360)

This new calculation determines the torsional forces on a beam subject to uniformly distributed torque loads and concentrated torque loads. The design of the torsional and normal forces are then checked against a selected steel section. The calculation can be used to check a steel beam subject to torque forces such as beams in a masonry support system, beams loaded eccentrically to the shear center, integral floor slabs or beams subject to eccentric loading during the construction phase.

  • Checks rolled I sections (W, M, S or HP), channel sections (C or MC), and HSS sections (rectangular, square, round or pipe) subject to major and minor axis moments and shears together with a uniformly distributed torque and concentrated torque loads

  • The calculation can design to the ASD or LRFD design methods

  • Torsional graphs are produced for the torsional rotation and the three derivates for a single uniformly distributed torque and any number of concentrated torque loads, showing the individual and total plot lines.

  • The ends of the beam can be free to warp or fully fixed against warping.

  • The batch design spreadsheet can be used to check multiple beams
