Use system variables

System variables are pre-defined variables for common constants, such as pi. You can use system variables in all your calculations. To use or view system variables, or to insert system variables in your documents, see the following instructions.

Use system variables in your calculations

Type the variable name into an expression in your document.
Calculate the expression.

View all system variables

In the Tools ribbon group, click Variables.

The Variables dialog box opens.
Click the System tab.

The Variables dialog box displays the system variables.

Insert system variables in your document

Place the insertion point where you want to place the system values.
In the Tools ribbon group, click Variables.

The Variables dialog box opens.
Click the System tab.

The Variables dialog box displays system variables.
Select the variables that you want to insert in your document.
In the Write Out options, select the variable details that you want to insert in your document.
Click Write Out.

The selected system variables appear in your document.
