For administrators: Hardware and software recommendations for Tekla on-demand licensing 2025
Operating system
Tekla on-demand license server 2025 is designed to work with:
- Windows 11
- Windows 10, supported until October 14th 2025, aligned with the Microsoft Windows 10 Home and Pro Lifecycle Policy.
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2016, supported until January 12, 2027, aligned with the Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Lifecycle Policy.
Only 64-bit operating systems are supported. It is best practice to install the Tekla on-demand license server on an operating system intended for servers.
Linux or Unix based servers are not supported. Directly deploying the Tekla on-demand license server in cloud environments is not supported.
You can install the Tekla on-demand license server on a regular workstation, but the most reliable solution for serving multiple clients is to use a separate server computer with a server operating system. Servers are designed to operate reliably for a longer time without the need to restart as often as regular workstations.
Additional software components
Tekla on-demand license server 2025 uses Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 Full and Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (X64).
Internet connection
The Tekla on-demand license server uses the internet on a regular basis and requires an intermittent internet connection. The Tekla on-demand license server reports Tekla Structures usage to the Cloud Licensing Service (CLS) for billing, and the Tekla on-demand license server gets its own license from the CLS.
The Tekla on-demand license server borrows its own license for 72 hours, and renews the license every 2 to 3 hours. If a connection break is longer than 72 hours, the Tekla on-demand license server rejects any license requests by Tekla Structures.
Other infrastructure
- The Tekla on-demand license server and workstations running Tekla Structures must be in the same local area network.
- The workstations must be able to contact the license server.
- Your company's firewall must allow
communication between the server computer and the workstations running Tekla Structures.
Configure the firewall to allow the Framework.dll, tekla.exe, and lmgrd.exe for the Tekla on-demand license server to operate through the firewall. These files are located in the ..\Tekla\License\OnDemandServer folder.
- If your internet connection is restricted, change your firewall settings to allow outbound traffic on TCP port 443 to https://identity.trimble.com and https://activate.tekla.com.
- The MAC address of your network adapter where the license server is installed should not be changed. If you are using a virtual environment, ensure that you are using static MAC addressing instead of dynamic MAC addressing.
- Use a static IP address for your license server. Do not use a dynamic IP address, such as an IP address assigned using dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP).
