Updates in Tekla Model Assistant (Preview)

Generate reports

Tekla Model Assistant can now run reports. You can search for a specific report template by name (for example, Run the bolt list report), or ask the assistant to list all available report templates. If you describe what you need, the assistant selects a suitable template from your current Tekla Structures environment. Reports can run on the full model or on your currently selected objects, and the results are returned in the chat.

Confirmation for large operations

Tekla Model Assistant now warns you before running large or complex operations. This includes bulk edits, multi-step changes, and operations that affect many objects.

When the assistant detects an expensive operation, it asks you to confirm before proceeding.

Extended model filtering

Tekla Model Assistant now supports more filtering options. You can filter objects by:

  • Bolt properties, such as size, length, and standard (for example, Select all M16 bolts with length greater than 50mm).
  • Rebar properties, such as rebar size and other attributes (for example, How many rebars with size 12 are in the model).
  • Template hierarchy, such as objects within named assemblies or cast units (for example, Select parts in assembly B-12).
  • User-defined attributes, such as custom attributes (for example, Filter parts where UDA Mark = BT-4560-A).
  • Elevation, such as objects at specific elevations (for example, Select all assemblies at elevation 20000).
  • Child objects of the current selection, such as nested objects like rebars, bolts, or surface treatments inside a selected part or assembly or cast unit.

You can also combine multiple criteria in one filter (for example, Size 12 rebars in assemblies named STAIR).

Generate macros

Tekla Model Assistant can now create and run macros. This is useful when the available tools cannot do what you need.

To create a macro, ask the assistant (for example, Create a macro to calculate the weight of all steel beams). The assistant creates the macro and then runs it. If the macro does not work, the assistant fixes it and asks you to confirm before trying again.

The assistant suggests a macro when you ask for one, when you select more than 500 objects, or when no tools are available for your request.

Macros that work are saved locally and can be used again. They are saved in ..\ProgramData\Trimble\Tekla Structures\<version\Environments\common\macros\ModelingAssistant\Generated Macros. Before creating a new macro, the assistant checks if a saved macro can already do what you need. If a saved macro exists, it is reused instead of creating a new one.

Move, rotate, mirror, and copy multiple objects individually

Tekla Model Assistant can now move, rotate, mirror, and copy multiple objects with different settings in one operation. Each object can have its own values. For example, the assistant can move one object and rotate another at the same time.

If some objects fail, the successful ones are still applied. Failed objects are reported separately.

For example, Move object A by 500,0,0 and rotate object B 90 degrees around the Z axis in one operation.

Improved installation when using a .tsep file

Fixed an issue where installing a newer version of the Tekla Model Assistant .tsep file from Tekla Warehouse did not replace the older version that was already installed.

Now, when you double-click a newer .tsep file, it automatically replaces the older version of Tekla Model Assistant.

Find user-defined attributes (UDAs)

Tekla Model Assistant can now find which user-defined attributes (UDAs) are available in your model. Ask the assistant which UDAs are available, or search for specific UDAs by name or object type. For example, Show me the UDAs for beams.

Recognize the correct mode

Previously, Tekla Model Assistant could report the wrong mode. For example, the assistant would say modeling mode when a drawing was open, and then refuse to do drawing actions. The assistant now correctly detects if you are in modeling mode or in drawing mode.

Upload images

You can now upload images to Tekla Model Assistant. The assistant can analyze drawings, sketches, or written instructions from your images. Click the + button at the bottom of the chat and select an image file (.jpeg, .jpg, or .png).

If you install or update Tekla Model Assistant using a .tsep file, log out of Tekla Structures and log back in once for image upload to work.

Tekla Model Assistant can now find and list filters that already exist in your environment, instead of creating new ones.

For example, you can ask What filters do I have?. The assistant then searches your selection, view, and drawing filters. You can narrow the search by object type, property, or filter type.

Now, when you try to create a model view and Tekla Structures has reached the limit of 9 active views, you get an error message that tells you to close some of the views first.

Change in re-uploading drawings using Document manager

The Add new versions option to upload several versions of the same drawing to the same collection has been removed. Now an existing drawing is always replaced with the newer version.

Previously, when you used the re-upload tool to duplicate and update existing collections, the duplicated collection was not updated correctly. This issue has been fixed.

Improvements in binding parts to levels

New Auto and None options

New Auto and None options are now available in the Bind to levels properties in the property pane.

When Auto is selected, the part is automatically bound to the closest level of the part's handle point. If the handle point is below or above the grid level, an offset value is automatically added.

If you move or copy the part, the binding is automatically updated to match the closest level of its new position, and the offset value is updated accordingly.

When no level is selected, the level name is now displayed as None in the Bind to levels properties, and no binding is created.

Automatic level copying for beams

The Bind to levels properties for beams have been improved to speed up the modeling of horizontal beams.

When you set the Start level, Tekla Structures now automatically copies the value to End level. Use the new Same as start level checkbox to control this. Clear the checkbox if you want to set the start and end levels manually. Additionally, automatic copying is skipped if a beam already has different start and end levels.

Fixed: Correct update for bindings

Previously, when you moved or copied a wall layout or floor layout to a different location, the binding values were not updated. This has been fixed. Move and copy now work the same way as they do for regular objects.

  • If the new location matches a grid level, the binding updates to that level.

  • If the new location does not match any grid level, the binding is removed.

Fixed: Rebar set adaptivity

Previously, when you changed the bind to level properties of a concrete part, rebar set adaptivity did not work correctly and the rebars could end up outside the part. Now, the rebar set adaptivity works correctly when the bind to level properties of a concrete part are modified.

Previously, rebar sets would not update properly after binding beam start and end levels to different elevations. Now, rebar set adaptivity works correctly when you bind sloped beams.

Fixed: Unintentional horizontal movement

Previously, parts bound to grid levels moved horizontally when you modified the grid origin's X or Y coordinates. Now, parts bound to levels move only vertically when grid levels are changed, preventing unintended horizontal movements.

TTSD-77205

Fixed: Toolbar refresh issue when using Undo or Redo

Previously, the direct modification contextual toolbar did not refresh after using Undo or Redo. If you then modified a property, outdated values from the toolbar could accidentally overwrite your data with incorrect values. This was problematic when working with bindings and panel profiles.

This has been fixed, and the toolbar now automatically refreshes after you use Undo or Redo.

The following changes have been made to revision name suggestions:

  • Fixed behavior for padded numeric revisions, such as Revision 001, Revision 002, and so on

  • Enabled recognition of the "prefix+alphabetical" pattern, such as Revision 1A, Revision 1B, and so on

Wall panel reinforcement: Hook length calculation for end hook type 0 has been improved. Also, previously, the maximum hook length limitation was too restrictive. Now the hook can extend up to the edge of the rebar.

Wall layout: On the General tab, the list for selecting an option for the height and the global Z coordinates now shows the correct saved option when opening the component dialog.

Wall layout: Previously, modifying a triangular opening changed the opening to a rectangular opening. This issue has been fixed.

Wall panel reinforcement: When using the Sandwich wall window component for detailing window and door openings in sandwich elements, vertical edge rebars around openings were incorrectly cut at the corners instead of extending properly. Vertical rebars around window and door openings now extend correctly and are no longer cut at the corners.

Wall layout: On the General tab, the top level and bottom level options are now set to empty values when the wall layout is not bound to grid levels. Previously, when the top and bottom levels for binding had values defined, other offset position types did not work properly.

TSAC-9768 Import, export, interoperability

Layout manager now updates the symbols of layout points both in Layout manager and in the model when you change the Is reference point setting in the layout point properties. For design points imported in the .tflx format, the Is reference point setting is unavailable.

TTSD-75325 Import, export, interoperability

IFC export: User-defined attributes (UDAs) for rebar sets were sometimes missing from the IFC file. These attributes are now exported correctly. 

TTSD-76263 Import, export, interoperability

Point clouds: When you add point clouds from Trimble Connect projects, the point cloud name is truncated at a period only if the name has a valid file extension. Previously, the name was always cut off at the last period, which caused issues if the point cloud name was not a file name with an extension.

IFC4 reference models: Previously, when you used map conversion and a base point simultaneously, IFC4 reference models were positioned incorrectly. This issue has been fixed.

When the language set in the Windows Region settings differed from the language set in the Language for non-Unicode programs settings, and the data you entered in the user interface contained characters not supported in the language set in the Region settings, the characters were handled incorrectly. This issue has been fixed.

IFC export: When adding properties to a property set in the Add property dialog, the NUMBER template attribute now works correctly. When you select NUMBER#1 from the list of template attributes, the #1 suffix is omitted from the attribute name. Previously, the #1 suffix was included, which prevented the template attribute from returning a value.

TTSD-76823 Import, export, interoperability

IFC4 and TrimBIM export: When exporting a model to IFC4 or sharing it as a .tekla file, bolts could appear under the wrong assembly. Bolts are now assigned to the correct assembly in IFC4 export and in TrimBIM-based export formats.

TTSD-77043 Import, export, interoperability

Performance improvement in DWG reference models in drawings: The performance of showing DWG reference models in drawings has been improved. Previously, in Tekla Structures version 2026, making a DWG reference model visible in a drawing took longer than in previous Tekla Structures versions. 

TPLED-431 Templates and reports

Excel reports: If you exported the Excel output directly to an exFAT-formatted external drive, the resulting XLSX file was sometimes invalid. This issue has been fixed.

TPLED-432 Templates and reports

Template Editor: Template Editor stopped responding when you changed a picture file from the property dialog and clicked both Apply and OK. This issue has been fixed.

TPLED-433 Templates and reports

Template Editor: When applying Undo or Redo to a picture file name in the Select Picture File dialog, the picture was not correctly updated in the Template Editor workarea. This issue has been fixed.

TPLED-439 Templates and reports

Template Editor: Previously, the content in multi-line value fields was not always aligned correctly. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-77232 Templates and reports

Template Editor: When you open a component property dialog by double-clicking the component in the template workarea and change the component height, and then click OK to close the dialog, the template workarea becomes empty. This issue has been fixed.

Graphical templates: The automatic font size change does not work when only the Min. font ratio free attribute is set. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-73466 Drawings

Insulation in drawings: The minimum width limit for drawing insulation objects in drawings has been removed, and you can now draw insulation objects at any width. Some hatch patterns might not display clearly at very small widths.

TTSD-75466 Drawings

Previously, Trimble Connect upload status in Document manager did not change from Up to date to Not up to date when the revision of a drawing was changed. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-75955 Drawings

Previously, when you deleted all tables (templates) from a drawing, undoing the delete left some tables selected. Selecting the tables again did not work correctly and an error message was displayed. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-76068 Drawings

Bolt marks: If you now add bolt marks manually using applied properties, the marks will no longer be removed if you change the bolt size. Previously, manually added bolt marks of bolts with a bolt size equal to the view-level Ignore bolt size value were removed, even though this setting should only affect bolts that were created using view properties.

TTSD-76110 Drawings

Merge table cells in rich text files in drawings: You can now merge and unmerge table cells in rich text file content using the new commands Merge cells and Unmerge cells in the context menu. Select the table cells that you want to merge or unmerge and then open the context menu to access the commands.

TTSD-76406 Drawings

Text editor in drawings: The full Text editor now loads the content directly from the Text property pane, not from the text object in the drawing. The edits made to the content in the property pane are no longer lost when you open the full Text editor
The Save button in the Text editor has been replaced by the Modify button. The Modify button is enabled only when there are pending changes in the text. When you click Modify, the changes are applied to the property pane and to the text object, and the Text editor remains open.

TTSD-76600 Drawings

Text objects in drawing: When editing plain text, you can no longer use the Tab key to add horizontal tabulation. If you use the Tab key, the result is not shown in the drawing. Adding tabulation in plain text objects is now prevented.

TTSD-76829 Drawings

In the Solid checker tool, the translation of "Fixed" in other languages previously meant "stationary". The translation has been corrected to mean "repaired".

TTSD-76857 Drawings

Previously, two almost identical plates in steel assemblies sometimes did not match correctly when comparing or cloning assemblies. This matching now works better for those plates.

Text objects in drawings: The keyboard down arrow now works in plain text and rich text content in the drawing property pane.

Cloning: Earlier, in rare cases, when you cloned assembly or single-part drawings, Tekla Structures might terminate unexpectedly. This issue has been fixed.

Rebar marks in rebar dimension marks: If a rebar already has a rebar mark, adding a rebar dimension mark with the Include rebar mark attribute now neither creates a new rebar mark nor changes the associativity of the existing mark.

TTSD-77167 Drawings

Detailed object level settings: The drawing-level detailed object level settings work correctly again and are used when the view-level detailed object level settings are disabled. Previously, the drawing-level detailed object level settings were not used in this situation.

TTSD-77222 Drawings

Previously, words in a drawing text object overlapped when the text was aligned to the center or to the right, and some text was bolded or there were different font sizes in the text. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-77366 Drawings

Previously, Document manager could stop working when the data type of a user-defined drawing attribute was changed. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-77457 Drawings

Previously, zooming in a drawing could be slow when reference models were set to be visible. Now zooming has been improved to work faster and smoother.

TTSD-77710 Drawings

Weld section line presentation in drawings now works correctly. Earlier, part section line properties were used instead of weld visible line properties. This caused some welds to be visible even if set to invisible in weld properties.

TTSD-78110 Drawings

Previously, when you double-clicked a text object with several lines of text in an open drawing, then edited the text in the Tekla Structures full Text editor and saved the changes, all line breaks were shown as square box symbols in the drawing and in the drawing printed to PDF. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-78141 Drawings

Earlier, when you created a drawing filter and selected the Multi-select from drawing option in the Value list, the objects located inside the selected area were not highlighted in the drawing. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-78158 Drawings

Previously, the CENTER2, DASHDOT2, DASHED2, DIVIVE2, and DOT2 line types were missing the example images in drawing view properties. This issue has been fixed.
 

TTSD-77945 Tekla Model Sharing

Tekla Model Sharing: Previously, canceling a write out could save the model incorrectly and prevent further sharing. Now, canceling works correctly and the model returns to its previous state.

TTSD-75862 Reinforcement

Rebar meshes: Tekla Structures no longer stops working when creating or modifying bent rebar meshes where the start or end offset is a negative value and the bending radius is large enough to eliminate the straight part of the first or last leg of the bars.

TTSD-75976 Reinforcement

Rebar groups: An issue has been fixed where modifying multiple rebar groups that had standard hooks with different angles caused hooks to be converted to custom hooks.

TTSD-78102 Reinforcement

Rebar groups: Previously, when you opened a model from an older Tekla Structures version, some curved tapered rebar groups could lose their spacing information and show the wrong number of bars. This information is now retained correctly.

TTSD-64258 Modeling

The direct modification commands that can be finished with the middle mouse button or the Enter key, such as the bolt creation commands, can now be finished also by pressing the spacebar.

TTSD-73064 Modeling

Previously, the user-defined attributes (UDAs) dialog was sometimes showing wrong options for some properties. This has now been fixed.

Contextual toolbar now shows user-defined attributes (UDAs) more reliably.

In round-to-round pipe parametric profiles, the inner contour end face is now created correctly.

Some cast-in-place concrete part solids were not shown correctly in model views in Tekla Structures 2026. This issue has been fixed with TTSD-77160.

TTSD-76233 Modeling

Previously, when you exported a TrimBIM file with Surface treatments and surfaces selected in the export settings, rebar set leg surfaces were also exported. This caused visualization problems and added no useful information to the file. Now, rebar set leg surfaces are no longer exported to TrimBIM.

TTSD-76285 Modeling

Previously, when unfolding bent plates that contained added material, Tekla Structures would incorrectly create unwanted copies of the added material. This could cause problems in drawings and NC file exports.

Now, the unfolding works correctly with added material, and no additional copies are created.

TTSD-76611 Modeling

Some cut openings in cast-in-place concrete parts were not shown in pour views in Tekla Structures 2026. This issue has been fixed with TTSD-77160.

TTSD-76961 Modeling

Previously, when copying objects from another model, dynamic user-defined attributes (UDAs) that were created by applications were not copied with the objects.

Now, these UDAs are copied correctly when you copy objects from another model.

TTSD-77160 Modeling

Pour management: A fallback method used when creating pour solids, which was not available in Tekla Structures 2026, has now been restored in Tekla Structures 2026 SP4. This method again processes cast-in-place concrete parts as they are, without clipping them.

TTSD-77309 Modeling

Previously, when creating a new grid, the grid could get the same name as an existing grid in the model, possibly causing conflicts.

Now, Tekla Structures automatically adds a number suffix to the grid name to ensure that each grid has a unique name.

TTSD-77508 Modeling

Tekla Launcher: Previously, Tekla Launcher always displayed the Trimble Connect project selection dialog when creating a new model, even if you did not plan to use Trimble Connect for that project.

Now, when you create a new model in Tekla Launcher, clear the Start Trimble Connect collaboration checkbox to skip the dialog. Tekla Launcher remembers your selection for future models.
 

TTSD-77518 Modeling

Trimble Connect: Previously, when uploading PDF drawings from Tekla Structures to Trimble Connect, the property set library and data table would become unavailable for other project members in Trimble Connect. This has been fixed.

If your project was already affected by this problem, the user who originally printed and uploaded the drawings to Trimble Connect can repair it using the Trimble Connect Property set repair tool available in Tekla Warehouse.

TTSD-78125 Modeling

Previously, the contextual toolbar could cause Tekla Structures to slow down noticeably when you selected more than 1000 objects at once, as it tried to process all selected objects. 

Now, the contextual toolbar automatically hides when you select more than 1000 objects to prevent this slowdown.

 

TTSD-77301 Core

Previously, if a plug-in failed, for example, due to invalid input and resulting missing output, the plug-in was not properly deleted and there could be errors. This issue has been fixed.

TTSD-76265 Tools and components

Previously, when you selected an object through the component browser in the custom component editor, the property pane did not show the object properties. This has been fixed, and the property pane now shows the properties.

TTSD-68170 Import, export, interoperability (steel)

STEP/IGES export: Bolt holes are now exported properly in complex aluminium profiles.

TTSD-76367 Import, export, interoperability (steel)

STEP/IGES export: Curved polybeams are now exported more correctly, including their bolt holes.

TTSD-76795 Import, export, interoperability (steel)

STEP/IGES export: Countersunk bolt holes are now exported correctly in the STEP and IGES formats.

TTSD-76854 Import, export, interoperability (steel)

DSTV/NC: Previously, if you created an NC part list right after opening a model, folded polybeams could show the wrong length. That wrong length could then stop you from creating NC files and unfolding drawings. The length is now calculated correctly when you create the list.

TTSD-77856, TTSD-77857, TTSD-77858 Import, export, interoperability (steel)

STEP/IGES export: The export now contains three new options for splitting the export:

  • One file per part position: Writes each distinct part position to its own file containing one representative geometry. The object count is appended to the resolved file name by default. For example, if part position is used in the file name template and five parts have position P4, the file contains only one object and is named P4_5. Parts without a part position are skipped and listed in the export log.
  • One file per assembly position: Writes each distinct assembly position to its own file containing one representative geometry. The object count is appended to the resolved file name by default. For example, if assembly position is used in the file name template and three objects share assembly position A1, the file contains only one assembly and is named A1_3. Objects that cannot be resolved to an assembly position are skipped and listed in the export log.
  • One file per phase:  Writes each phase to its own file. Groups exportable objects by both PhaseNumber and PhaseName, so phases with the same name but different numbers are written to separate files. With selected objects, only phases represented in the selection are exported; empty phases are not exported. Objects without a valid phase are skipped and listed in the export log.

STEP/IGES export: Previously, when the export generated multiple files, a sequence suffix (_1, _2, _3) was added to every file name, even if each file already had a unique name. Now, sequence suffixes are added only when two or more files in the export would otherwise have the same name.

STEP/IGES Export: Bent plates, lofted plates, and spiral beams are now exported as faceted Brep, including their bolt holes.
