Modify drawing names and titles

Tekla Structures names the drawings according to the name given in the drawing properties. In addition to the drawing name, you can give titles for your drawings. Tekla Structures shows the drawing names and titles in Document manager and in drawing and report templates, and also in print output file names. You can change the drawing name and title when you create the drawing or in an existing drawing, depending on the drawing creation method. You can define up to three titles.

When you create a fabrication drawing, the fabrication drawing name usually consists of the following parts: drawing type + position number (mark) + sheet number, for example, A [P.1 - 1], where A is the drawing type, P.1 is the position number (mark), and 1 is the sheet number. The maximum number of the characters in the drawing name is 32. For general arrangement drawings, the drawing name usually consists of the following parts: running drawing number + drawing name.

Give titles to drawings

  1. In Document manager, right-click the drawing and select Properties.
  2. Enter the titles.
  3. Click Modify.

Close Document manager and open it again to see the change.

Tip:

Drawing titles can be used in print file names. If you want to customize your print file names and use title values instead of drawing names in them, you can define that the title entered in the drawing properties is used in the print file name. To do this, enter the value %TPL:TITLE1% (or %TPL:TITLE2% or %TPL:TITLE3%) as the value for the advanced option XS_DRAWING_PLOT_FILE_NAME_G (or _W, _A, _M or _C depending on the drawing type) through File > Settings > Advanced options > Printing.

For more information, see Customize print file names and TITLE1..3.
