Lock drawings

You can indicate that a drawing is not available for editing by locking it using the Lock command in Document manager. When a drawing is locked, it cannot be accidentally modified. The geometry of the locked drawing still changes when the model changes.

When you lock a drawing it does not prevent other than manual changes in the drawing. If there are changes in the model, they affect the drawings even if you have locked it. Locking is used to notify other users and yourself that the drawing should not be opened, edited, or deleted, and it also prevents users from doing this by accident. Locked drawings can be opened, but you need to manually unlock them first.

Tekla Structures flags locked drawings for update if the model changes.

  1. In Document manager, select the drawing you want to lock.
  2. Ensure that the edit switch is active.
  3. Click the Lock column next to the selected drawing.

You can also select this command from the context menu, or click the Lock button at the top. When you do this, you can lock several drawings at a time.

The Locked by column in the Document manager shows who has locked the drawing. If you have logged in to your Trimble Identity, your account name is shown. Otherwise your user name is shown.

  4. To unlock the locked drawings, click the Lock column again, or select the locked drawings and click the Unlock button at the top.
Do not mix locking with freezing. Freeze is used to prevent unwanted changes in associative objects on top of the drawing views. The changes in model affect drawings, and building objects such as parts and bolts are always updated in drawings even when using freeze. Freezing prevents changes in dimensions, marks, and view properties when building objects in model are changed.
