Create a space

Space is represented as a spatial volume in the model. Spaces define bounded areas or volumes that provide for certain functions, such as rooms, halls, or corridors within a building.

On the Manage tab on the ribbon, click Building hierarchy.
In the Building hierarchy side pane, click the button.
Click the Create space command.
1. Pick the first boundary point for the space in the model.
2. Pick the second boundary point for the space.
3. Pick the next boundary point for the space.
4. Click the middle mouse button to create the space.
5. To create another space, pick another point.
6. To stop creating spaces, press Esc.

Modify space properties

If the property pane is not open, double-click the space to open the properties.
Change the properties as needed.
Click Modify.

Space properties

Use the Space properties in the property pane to view and modify the properties of spaces in a Building hierarchy.

If you have customized the property pane layout, the list of properties may be different.


Setting	Description
General
Name	User-definable name of a space The name can contain a maximum of 61 characters.
Height	Height of the space
Specified level	Specifies to which building storey the space belongs in the building hierarchy
Bottom offset	Defines a certain distance below the space
IFC export
IFC entity	Select the IFC entity value: `IfcSpace`, the space is exported. This is the default value. `None`, the space is not exported. `Auto`, the default value is used.
Subtype (IFC4)	Select the Subtype (IFC4) value for `IfcSpace`. The default subtype is `NOTDEFINED`.
User-defined type (IFC4)	Define the User-defined type (IFC4) value. To do this, set Subtype (IFC4) to `USERDEFINED`.

UDAs	Click the User-defined attributes button to open the user-defined attributes (UDAs) of the space. UDAs provide additional information about the space.
