Customize the new profile catalog

The new profile catalog contains information about profiles, and the analysis and design properties of the profiles.

By default, the profile catalog contains standard, environment-specific profiles and generic parametric profiles. You can also define your own profiles.

You can organize profiles into groups, change the properties of profiles, and export and import profiles.

Tekla Structures stores the profile catalog information in the profdb.bin file.

Enable the new profile catalog

If the new profile catalog is not enabled in your environment, you must enable the new profile catalog before you can use it.

To use the new profile catalog, add set XS_USE_OLD_PROFILE_CATALOG=false to one of these files:

  • The env_global_default.ini file in the Environments\common folder

  • The env_<EnvironmentName>_environment.ini file in a specific environment folder.

Tip: To try the new profile catalog without enabling it, search for Open profile catalog in Quick Launch.

Convert rules from the original profile catalog to groups in the new profile catalog

In the new profile catalog, groups replace the rules that were used to organize profiles in the original profile catalog. The Convert Rules to Groups tool converts rules.lis and profiles.lis files to a ProfileCatalog.Groups.xml file for the new profile catalog.

  1. From Quick Launch, open the Convert Rules to Groups tool.
  2. If you want to convert only selected rules to groups, select the rules in the previous profile catalog.
    1. To open the previous profile catalog. search for profile catalog in Quick Launch.
    2. Select the rules that you want to convert to groups.
  3. Finish converting the rules to groups in one of these ways:
    • Click Convert selected rules to groups to convert only selected rules to groups.
    • Click Convert all rules to groups to convert all rules to groups.
The Convert Rules to Groups tool creates a file that contains the new group structure.
  4. Copy the created file to the XS_PROFDB\profil\profiles folder.
  5. Check the output to ensure that it is correct.

Filter and sort the profile catalog

You can filter the profile catalog to see only specific profiles. You can also sort the list of profiles according to the data in any column.

You can filter the profile catalog in these ways:

  • To filter the profile catalog by a search term, enter the text in the filter box.

To clear the filter, click the X in the filter box.

  • To filter the profile catalog by material type, select one or more material types on the ribbon of the Profile catalog dialog. The profile catalog shows profiles that match any of the selected material types.

  • To sort the list of profiles by a column, click the column heading.

Show only fabricator profiles

When a fabricator shares their content using Tekla PowerFab, you can filter the profile catalog to show only profiles that are available from the fabricator.

Before you begin, configure the fabricator settings.

Showing only fabricator profiles ensures that there are no profiles in your Tekla Structures model that the fabricator does not have in their database. If the fabricator makes changes to their settings, they are automatically updated in the profile catalog.

To show only fabricator profiles, select Show only fabricator's profiles on the ribbon of the Profile catalog dialog.

Find issues in the profile catalog using profile database inspection

Profile database inspection finds issues in the profile database and creates log files that list the issues.

These issues include:

  • Suspected profiles

  • Profiles that are not valid

  • Duplicate profiles

  • Profiles with names that contain spaces

  • CLB profiles and sketched profiles that might have lost some geometric properties, analysis properties, or UDAs due to maximum limits.

  1. To start profile database inspection, search for Run profile database inspection in Quick Launch.

Profile database inspection searches the profile database for issues and writes a list of issues in the log files in the ExportedProfilesfolder under the model folder.

    • Issues with fixed profiles are listed in the FixedProfileItems_<Environment>_<Role>[_<ModelName>].info file.

    • Issues with hardcoded parametric profiles are listed in the HardCodedProfileItems_<Environment>_<Role>[_<ModelName>].info file.
