Create and apply detailed object level settings

In addition to defining automatic annotation and building object properties in drawings, you can also set up special representations for annotations and building objects and use these detailed object level settings for specific purposes. For example, you might want to use a specific color for all columns in a specific general arrangement drawing, and use the default part color in all other general arrangement drawings.

To create detailed object level settings, you need to define:

  • Object properties that you want to apply on the selected objects
  • A filter that selects the objects that you want to be affected. Optimize the filter so that it handles only the objects that are relevant.

To apply detailed object level settings on the drawing view level, you need to create the object properties and filters on the view level in the drawing view properties. To apply detailed object level settings on the drawing level, you need to create the object properties and filters on the drawing level in the drawing properties. Applying object level settings on the drawing level is only possible in general arrangement drawings.

Create and apply detailed object level settings in a general arrangement drawing

  1. On the Drawings & reports tab, click Drawing properties > GA drawing.
  2. To define the desired object properties:
    1. Click an object in the drawing properties dialog and go to the Appearance tab.

      In this example, click Part.

    2. Next, define the desired properties:

Select green as the line color, and save the properties with the name beam.

Select magenta as the line color, and save the properties with the name column.

Select blue as the line color, and save the properties with the name brace.

    3. Click Cancel to close the dialog.

Now you have created the required representations for the parts.

  3. To create filters that select the desired parts:

In this example, create filters that find columns, beams, and braces.

    1. In the General arrangement drawing properties dialog, click Filter.
    2. Create filters by Part - Name for COLUMN, BEAM, and BRACE according to the example below. To find only parts, include a row for the object type Part. Adding another row specifying the object type optimizes the filter so that it selects only BEAMS that have the correct object type.

    3. Save the filters one by one using Save as with the names ts_beam, ts_column, and ts_brace.

Now you have created the required filters needed for selecting the desired parts.

    4. Click Cancel to close the dialog.
  4. To create the detailed object level settings:
    1. In the General arrangement drawing properties dialog, click Edit settings....

    2. In the Object level settings for general arrangement drawing dialog, first delete the unnecessary rules by selecting the rules and clicking Delete row.
    3. In the Object level settings for general arrangement drawing, click Add row.

You can add several rules in one set of detailed object level settings. The rules will be applied in the order they are listed.

    4. In this example, define three rules by adding three rows:

      First rule:

Model object (Drawing view filter): ts_beam

      Drawing object type: Part

      Settings used: beam

      Second rule:

Model object (Drawing view filter): ts_column

      Drawing object type: Part

      Settings used: column

      Third rule:

Model object (Drawing view filter): ts_brace

      Drawing object type: Part

      Settings used: brace

    5. Give the new set of detailed object level settings a name, in this example, gatype1, using Save as. Do not use spaces or special characters in the name.

    6. Click Cancel to exit the dialog.

Next, you can apply the created object level settings in a general arrangement drawing.

The same set of detailed object level settings can be applied in any general arrangement drawings.

  5. To apply the detailed object level settings in a general arrangement drawing:
    1. To open a general arrangement drawing where you want to apply the detailed object level settings, go to the Drawings & reports ribbon tab, open Document manager, and double-click the desired general arrangement drawing.
    2. Double-click the drawing background to open the drawing properties.
    3. Click Edit settings....
    4. Load the set of object level settings that you just created, in this example gatype1, and click Load.
    5. Click OK and again OK.
    6. Ensure that Use detailed object level settings is set to Yes.
    7. Click Modify to apply the changes in the general arrangement drawing.
    8. Confirm the detailed object level changes by clicking Yes in the Object level settings changed. message box.

In the drawing, all beams will be drawn with green color, all columns with magenta color, and all braces with blue color.

    Note:

If a rule in the Object level settings for general arrangement drawing dialog is shown in red, either the object property file defined for Settings used, or the filter file defined for Model object (Drawing view filter) is missing from the \attributes folder in the current model folder. See an example below:

Create and apply detailed object level settings in cast unit drawings

  1. On the Drawings & reports tab, click Drawing properties > Cast unit drawing.
  2. Click View creation, and click the View properties button.
  3. To create the needed object properties:
    1. Click an object in the options tree on the left and define the desired view-level object properties.

In this example, click Reinforcement in the options tree and, on the Rebar appearance tab, select red as the reinforcement line color.

    2. Save the reinforcement properties by entering a unique name in the box next to the Save button and click the button.

      In this example, enter class100.

  4. To create a filter for selecting the desired objects:
    1. Click Filter in the options tree.
    2. In this example, create a filter by Reinforcing bar - Class and enter the value 100 101.

    3. Save the filter as class100filter and click Save.

Now you have the filter needed for selecting the reinforcing bars.

  5. To create detailed object level settings:
    1. Click View properties in the options tree and click Edit settings....

    2. In the Object level settings for view dialog, delete the unnecessary rules by selecting the rules and clicking Delete row.
    3. In the Object level settings for view dialog, to add a rule, click Add row.

You can add several rules in one set of detailed object level settings. The rules will be applied in the order they are listed.

    4. In this example, define the following rule values:

Model object (Drawing view filter): class100filter

      Drawing object type: Reinforcing bar

      Settings used: class100

    5. Give the detailed object level settings a name (here class_100) and save using Save as.

Do not use spaces or special characters in the name.

    6. Click Cancel to close the dialog.

Now you can apply the new detailed object level settings in a cast unit drawing that contains lifting anchors.

The same set of detailed object level settings can be applied in any cast unit drawings.

  6. To apply the detailed object level settings:
    1. To open a cast unit drawing that contains lifting anchors, go to the Drawings & reports ribbon tab, click Document manager, and double-click the desired drawing.
    2. To open the View properties dialog for a view that contains lifting anchors, select the view and double-click the view frame.
    3. In the view properties, click Edit settings....
    4. Load the object level settings you just created, in this example class_100, and click Load.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Ensure that Use detailed object level settings is set to Yes.
    7. Click Modify to apply the changes in the view.
    8. Confirm the detailed object level changes by clicking Yes in the Object level settings changed. message box.

The lifting anchors are now shown in red.

      Note:

If a rule in the Object level settings for view dialog is shown in red, either the object property file defined for Settings used, or the filter file defined for Model object (Drawing view filter) is missing from the \attributes folder in the current model folder. See an example below:
