This example shows how to create a parametric variable that replaces sub-components with other sub-components.

1. On the Custom component editor toolbar, click the Display variables button.

   The Variables dialog box opens.

2. Click Add to create a new parametric variable.
3. Modify the variable as follows:
   1. In the Value type list, select Component name.

      Tekla Structures automatically adds the suffix _name in the variable name. Do not delete the suffix.

   2. In the Formula box, enter the name of the sub-component.
   3. In the Label in dialog box box, enter Cast-in plate.

      

4. Link the variable to the Name property of both sub-components:
   1. In the Custom component browser, browse for the Name attribute of the first sub-component.
   2. Right-click Name and select Add Equation.
   3. Enter P1_name after the equals sign.
   4. Repeat steps 4b–4c for the other sub-component.

   

5. Save the custom component.
6. Close the custom component editor.
