Spacing of shear reinforcement (concrete beam: EC2)

The user defined spacing limits (as specified in Design Settings > Concrete > Cast-in-place > Beam > Link Settings) are considered in addition to the following EC2 or NA recommendations.

For design in accordance with UK NA, EC2 Recommendations, Irish NA, Malaysian NA, Singapore NA, Finnish NA and Swedish NA the longitudinal spacing, sl between the legs of shear reinforcement is given by;

sl,min,u ≤ sl ≤ MIN[0.75*d, sl,max,u]

For design in accordance with Norwegian NA;

sl,min,u ≤ sl ≤ MIN[0.6*h’, sl,max,u]

where
sl,max,u
  =

the maximum longitudinal spacing specified

sl,min,u
  =

the minimum longitudinal spacing specified

h'
  =
the distance between the centres of gravity of top and bottom reinforcement

If compression reinforcement is required for bending the longitudinal spacing, sl between the legs of shear reinforcement is given by;

sl,min,u ≤ sl ≤ MIN{MIN[sl,max,code, 15*Φcomp] , sl,max,u}

where
Φcomp
  =

the minimum diameter of the compression reinforcement

The transverse spacing, st between the legs of shear reinforcement is given by;

s t
MIN[st,max,code, st,max,u]
where
st,max,u
  =
the maximum link leg spacing across the beam specified by the user
st,max,code
  =
an NDP for the maximum code allowed leg spacing across beam

For design in accordance with EC2 Recommendations, UK NA, Irish NA, Malaysian NA, Singapore NA Finnish NA and Swedish NA
st,max,code
  =
MIN [0.75*d, 600 mm]

For design in accordance with Norwegian NA

st,max,code
  =
MIN[h’, 600 mm]
where
h'
  =
the distance between the centres of gravity of top and bottom reinforcement
