How to use the ribbon and commands on the ribbon

The essential commands in Tekla Structural Designer are available on the ribbons. The commands are organized on ribbon tabs and grouped according to their use. Note that some commands are only available when an appropriate view is active.

How to use commands on the ribbon

Find commands

Click the required ribbon tab.

Some commands have more options under them. The options become available when you click the command's name:

Activate the command you want to use

On the ribbon, click the command.

The command runs until you end it or use another command.

Check which command you need for your current task, if you are unsure

Rest the mouse pointer on a command.

A small window called tooltip appears. Tooltips provide more information about commands and also give examples, hints, and tips. For example:

If necessary, select Instructor on the Windows ribbon.

In the side pane, click Instructor to open the Instructor side pane window.

On the ribbon, rest the mouse pointer on a command. The Instructor side pane window shows short videos, steps and other information on how to use the active command.

Minimize the ribbon

You can minimize the ribbon to save space on your screen. When the ribbon is minimized, the command buttons are hidden but the tabs are visible.
  1. With the ribbon displayed, press Ctrl+F1.

    The ribbon is now minimized to save space on the screen:

  2. To access the commands when the ribbon is minimized, click a tab title.

    The ribbon becomes visible so that you can select a command.

  3. To restore the ribbon, press Ctrl+F1 again.
