Create minimum design wind loadcases

Minimum design wind loads to ASCE 7 can be automatically applied to windward wall and roof panels and open structure wind load members via the wind wizard as follows:
  • Click Load > Wind Wizard

  • Run through the wind wizard and when you get to the Results page select Create Minimum Design Wind Loadcases.


  • After completing the wind wizard, add or auto generate the loadcases you require as described below.

Add a minimum design wind loadcase

Note: Before you can add minimum design wind loadcases, you must first run the wind wizard and select the Create Minimum Design Wind Loadcases option.
  1. Click Load > Wind Loadcases to open the Wind Loadcases dialog box.
  2. Click Add
  3. Select the required Direction
  4. Click Min Design Load

    The loadcase name is automatically generated for the selected direction but can be edited if required (by clearing the Auto checkbox).

  5. Click OK

Having created the minimum design wind loadcases, they can be added to automatically generated wind load combinations in the same ways as other wind loadcases.

Auto generate minimum design wind loadcases

Note: Before you can generate minimum design wind loadcases, you must first run the wind wizard and select the Create Minimum Design Wind Loadcases option.
  1. Click Load > Wind Loadcases to open the Wind Loadcases dialog box.
  2. Click Auto
    Note: Auto is not available if wind loadcases have already been defined.
  3. Click Min Design Load for each of the directions that you require minimum design wind loadcases to be created.

  4. If you also want to generate standard wind loadcases, click Include for each of the directions required.
  5. Click OK
    Loadcase names are automatically generated for the selected directions but can be edited if required (by unchecking the Auto checkbox).
  6. Click OK

Having created the minimum design wind loadcases, they can be added to automatically generated wind load combinations in the same ways as other wind loadcases.

Review minimum design wind loadcases

Once wind loadcases have been created they can be reviewed graphically by opening a wind view for the required direction and then selecting the desired wind loadcase from the Loading list.

If reviewing a minimum wind loadcase you can hover the cursor over the wind pressure profile that is displayed, as shown below, in order to see the applied pressure values in a tooltip.

Create a minimum design wind loadcases report

A table of the minimum design wind loads applied to the model is available by including the "Wind Data" report item in your reports.
