Work with meshed walls and slabs

In terms of finite element meshing in Tekla Structural Designer the following mesh variations exist:

  • Wall mesh

  • Slab mesh

  • Semi-rigid mesh

Meshes are always planar. Within each slab plane there can be many mesh groups. (A mesh group being an area of interconnected slab items which have the same properties, hence allowing the area to be meshed as one.) FE mesh creation is carried out independently for each mesh group in turn.

FE meshes interconnect along the lines where mesh groups meet (this applies both at in-plane and out of plane lines of connection). This is achieved by seeding the boundary lines of a mesh group prior to any meshing.

By default meshed walls and slabs adopt isotropic properties (same stiffness in both directions), but options are provided to allow you to specify them as orthotropic.
