New - Export of portal frame connections and column base plates to Tekla Structures
Further expanding the scope of integration with Tekla Structures, in the Tekla Structural Designer 2024 release both portal frame haunched connection geometry and column base plates can now be exported to Tekla Structures. With these enhancements to the BIM workflow, there is less work for the detailer to do on receiving the model from the Engineer.
This new functionality applies only to the direct import of the Tekla Structural Designer model file (*.tsmd file) within Tekla Structures - not to import of CXL files - and requires version 2024 of both Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Structures to be installed.
Portal frame connections
-
Portal frame haunch geometry is now exported from Tekla Structural Designer to Tekla Structures.
-
This allows the Tekla Structures steel detailer to view the correct geometrical haunch information used to design the frame.
-
Accurate haunch length, depth and section profile information is transferred - along with the endplate details.
-
Macros are assigned automatically within Tekla Structures and populated with values suiting the Structural Engineering requirements.

Base plate connections
-
Column base plates designed within Tekla Structural Designer are automatically included in the integration with Tekla Structures.
-
Provides automated detailing based on the designed arrangement specified by the Engineer.
-
Populates the appropriate Tekla Structures connection macro: Base Plate 1042 (metric) or 1047 (USA Imperial)
-
Assigns geometrical information confirmed within Tekla Structural Designer.
-
Full connection details are included in the export with information for:
-
Endplate geometry
-
Bolt information
-
Bolt layout
