Sub Models dialog box

The Sub Models dialog box, which can be opened by double-clicking Sub Models in the Structure tree, allows you to split the structure into a continuous series of sub models for use in grillage and FE chasedown analysis.

  • Level - Before any analysis has been performed, only two levels are displayed, one at a distance (2m) above the highest construction level and a second at the same distance below the lowest level. These cannot be changed. Hence, at this point, there is a single sub-model comprising the whole structure.

  • Active checkbox - Only active levels act to divide the structure into sub-models. The top and bottom levels must always remain active, as there must always be at least one sub model.

Once intermediate levels have been inserted, you can choose to inactivate them if required. When this occurs the sub-models immediately above and below the level in question are merged into a single sub-model.

  • Insert Above - Allows you to insert a new sub model between the selected level and the one above. It defaults to being located half way between the two, however this can be edited manually, provided it remains between the two reference levels.

  • Insert Below - Allows you to insert a new sub model between the selected level and the one below. It defaults to being located half way between the two, however this can be edited manually, provided it remains between the two reference levels.
  • Delete - Deletes the selected level. (Apart from the highest and lowest levels, which can't be deleted.
  • Generate - Allows you to automatically generate default sub models for every level specified as a floor in the Construction Levels dialog.

Manual generation of sub models in this way is optional as default sub models are automatically generated for you anyway when you run the analysis (provided the Auto Generate checkbox in the dialog remains selected). You may however choose to manually generate them prior to the first run of the analysis if you want to review the sub models first.

  • Auto Generate checkbox - Provided this remains selected, default sub models will be created for every level specified as a floor in the Construction Levels dialog. The default sub models then get created either by clicking the Generate button, or by initiating a chasedown analysis.

If you want to manually adjust the cutting planes, cutting plane levels, or set a level inactive, you must also unselect Auto Generate. Otherwise the changes you have made will be lost the next time the sub models are generated.

  • OK - Allows you to save any changes made.
  • Cancel - Allows you to discard any changes made.
Note: The Generate button can be used to revert back to the default sub models at any time.
