Design Parameters for Horizontal Bars (Concrete wall: EC2)
Reinforcement area for a wall
-
Limiting minimum ratio of horizontal reinforcement area to gross concrete area, ρh,lim,min
-
Limiting maximum ratio of horizontal reinforcement area to gross concrete area, ρh,lim,max
The minimum area of horizontal reinforcement, Ash,min is an NDP1,
-
For design to the EC2 Recommendations, UK NA, Irish NA, Malaysian NA, Singapore NA and Finnish NA the recommendation is;
Ash,min = max (0.25*Asv,prov, 0.001* Acg)
where
Asv,prov = Actual area of vertical reinforcement provided
Acg = Gross area of the concrete wall
-
For design to the Norwegian NA the recommendation is;
Ash,min = max (0.25*Asv, prov , 0.3* Acg *fctm/fyk )
-
For design to the Swedish NA the recommendation is;
Ash,min = 0.25*Asv, prov
The minimum reinforcement ratio (of horizontal reinforcement area to gross concrete area), which will be the start point for the design, is specified in Design Settings, with the default being 0.002.
Minimum Horizontal Bar Spacing
Clear distance between bars2
scl,min ≥ max (k1* maximum bar diameter, 20mm, dg + k2)
Where dg is the maximum aggregate size.
k1 and k2 are NDP values,
-
For design to EC2 Recommendations, UK NA, Irish NA, Malaysian NA, Singapore NA and Swedish NA;
k1 = 1.0, and k2 = 5 mm
-
For design to Finnish NA;
k1 = 1.0, and k2 = 3 mm
-
For design to Norwegian NA;
k1 = 2.0, and k2 = 5 mm
You are given additional control over the spacing by specifying a minimum clear spacing user limit in Design Settings.
Maximum Horizontal Bar Spacing
To satisfy the slab condition3 if "predominantly out-of-plane bending";
Limiting maximum horizontal spacing, scr,max= min (3*hw , 400 mm)
You are given control over this value by specifying a maximum centre spacing user limit in Design Settings.
