Manage tax groups

Creating tax groups that contain multiple tax rates can be helpful for record keeping. For example, city, county, and state tax rates can be combined into one group. Tax groups are available in the Purchasing and Order Entry modules. Creating tax groups is optional, so if you wish, you can define and use single tax rates instead.

You can create and modify tax groups in the Tax Group Maintenance dialog.
  1. To access Tax Group Maintenance, do one of the following:
    • Go to Maintenance > Cost Maintenance > Tax Groups.
    • Go to Maintenance > Cost Maintenance > Tax Rates. At the bottom right corner of the Tax Rate Maintenance dialog, click Tax Group Maintenance.

The Tax Group Maintenance dialog opens.

  2. Do any of the following:
    To Do this
    Create a new tax group
    1. Click New.
    2. In the Abbreviation field, type an abbreviation code.

The abbreviation code will be used in lists where you can select the tax group.

    3. In the Description field, type a description for the tax group.
    4. You can also type the state, country, or city that the tax group applies to.
    5. Click Add to save the tax group and add it to the list.

The new tax group is automatically selected.

    6. To select the tax rates that you want to add to the tax group, click Included Tax Rates.
    7. Click the arrow buttons to move the tax rates that you want to include in the tax group to the Included list.
    8. Click OK.

The selected tax rates are added to the selected tax group.

    Modify a tax group
    1. Select a tax group in the list.
    2. Modify the abbreviation, description, state, county, and city according to your needs.
    3. If necessary, click Included Tax Rates to modify the tax rates included in the tax group.
    4. Click the arrow buttons to move the tax rates that you want to include in the tax group to the Included list.
    5. Click Edit to save the changes.
    Delete tax groups
