Define default categories and subcategories for Production Control

Categories and subcategories are breakdown items used in reporting and scheduling. You can create and use them for sorting, tracking, and reporting. Categories also help you to quickly identify the items in your jobs. For example, you can categorize jobs by fabrication type.

To further filter items, you can also add subcategories.

Tip:

You can also create new categories and subcategories manually when creating or modifying a job.

Manage categories

You can add new categories and modify and delete existing categories

Categories are considered a main breakdown item for project summaries and project schedules.

  1. Go to Maintenance > <Module> > Company Standards.

    The <Module> Company Standards dialog opens.

  2. Click Categories.

    The Company Categories dialog opens.

  3. Modify the settings as needed.
    To Do this

    Add a new category manually

    1. Click New.
    2. In the Category field, type a name for the category.

      For example, Skewed beam.

    3. Click Add.

      The new category is added to the Category list.

      Repeat steps a to c for all new categories.

    Modify a category
    1. Click a category name.
    2. Click Edit, change the category name, and click Edit again.
    Delete a category
    1. Click a category name.
    2. Click Delete.
    3. Click Yes to confirm deleting the category.
  4. Close the Company Categories dialog.
  5. In the <Module> Company Standards dialog, click Save to update the categories.

The changes in categories are saved.

Manage subcategories

You can add new subcategories and modify and delete existing subcategories

Subcategories are considered a main breakdown item for project summaries and project schedules.

  1. Go to Maintenance > <Module> > Company Standards.

    The <Module> Company Standards dialog opens.

  2. Click the Sub-Categories button.

    The Company Sub-Categories dialog opens.

  3. To add add a subcategory, click New.
  4. In the Sub-Category field, type a name for the subcategory.
  5. Click Add.

    The new subcategory is added to the Sub-Category list.

    Repeat steps 1 to 4 for all new subcategories.

  6. To modify or delete a subcategory, click a subcategory in the Company Categories dialog to select it and do either of the following:
    • Click Edit, change the subcategory name, and click Edit again.
    • Click Delete and then, click Yes to confirm deleting the subcategory.
  7. Close the Company Sub-Categories dialog.
  8. In the <Module> Company Standards dialog, click Save to update the subcategories.

The changes in subcategories are saved.
