Define outgoing email settings for two-step verification

Many email hosting services, such as Microsoft Outlook and Google Gmail, require two-step verification. For these, an app password may be required to use Tekla PowerFab automated events.

Define the email settings

Sign in to your email host's account or administration settings.
Access the app passwords section.

This is generally under the Security settings. Look for an App passwords or application password section.
To generate a unique app password for Tekla PowerFab, select Create a new app password.
Define outgoing email settings in Tekla PowerFab for automated events.

For instructions, see Define outgoing email settings. Use the newly generated app password in place of your regular password.

Test the configuration

In Tekla PowerFab, ensure that automated events are correctly sending emails using the app password. Along with testing the outgoing email settings, we recommend that you test the automated and manual report generation.

Test the outgoing email settings.
1. Go to Maintenance > Automated Events.
  
  The Automated Events dialog opens.
2. Click the Automated Events ribbon tab.
3. On the menu, select Outgoing Email Settings.
  
  The Automated Event Email Settings dialog opens.
4. To ensure that automated events are correctly sending emails using the app password, click Test.
  
  It should give a positive result.
Test both manual and automated report generation.
1. Create a report event that sends the report by email.

2. Set the reporting frequency to be in the near future.
  
  See Set the reporting frequency.
3. While waiting for the reporting frequency to elapse, run the automated event manually.

4. Ensure that you receive both the manual and automated emails.

Troubleshoot: Automated events are not sending emails using the app password

Verify that the Tekla PowerFab Remote Server service is running on the server and that it has been configured correctly.

If the Tekla PowerFab Remote Server service is running correctly and emails are still not sent, verify the email server settings with the host and ensure the app password is correctly entered.

If issues persist, consult your email host support to confirm that the app specific password has been created correctly.
