Schedule work packages

In the Production Planner tool in Tekla PowerFab Go, you can schedule work packages across workshops and departments. You can also reserve capacity for future work packages.

Schedule work packages for a workshop

To schedule a work package for a workshop for a week, do the following:
  1. Do either of the following:
    • Select a work package in the Unscheduled area and drag and drop it to the schedule.
    • Tap the three dots on a work package, select Schedule, select the workshop and week, and tap Schedule.

Place the work packages in the order that you want them to be worked on.

You can open multiple workshops to plan them at the same time.

The capacity figures for the week are updated.

  2. To view the details of a work package, tap it.

The work package is highlighted and the details open below the unscheduled work packages on the right.

To reschedule or unschedule a work package, tap the three dots to open the menu and select the appropriate option.

Department dependencies are validated based on department numbers. You get a warning if an earlier department is scheduled or rescheduled after a later one.

Schedule future work packages

In the workshop view, you can reserve capacity for upcoming projects so that you can identify gaps in the schedule and fill them.

The future work packages are likely to be large blocks of work such as an entire job or sequence. Therefore, the tool allows for the distribution of detailed department loadings to be split across multiple weeks and work areas.

You can define the required work loadings by both hours and weight required for each department within a future work package.

You can modify the future work package, if there are any changes in the project schedule or requirements.

Before you start creating a future work package, you must have a production control job. If you are working on a newly awarded project and have created a project management job, we recommend that you create the production control job at the same time to allow you to create your future work packages.

  1. Open the Production Planner.
  2. To create a new future work package, tap the Create future work package button.

The New Future WP dialog opens.

  3. In Job No., select a production control job.
  4. Define the other properties.
  5. Tap Next.

    The capacity dialog opens.

  6. To specify the amount of capacity for each department and work area by week, tap the blue plus button on the right.
    1. In Work Area, select the preferred work area.
    2. In Schedule, select the week for which you want to reserve the capacity.

    Capacity:

    • Orange: The current capacity for the week
    • Blue: The capacity you are adding
    • Red: Overcapacity
  7. Tap Apply.

The future work packages are added to the schedule with a Future label on them.

The future work packages are also visible on the department schedule.

You can select to view or hide the future work packages via the Workshop menu.

To reschedule or edit the details or capacity of a future work package, tap the three dots and select the desired action.

When you add the production work package to the schedule, the system checks to see if there are any future work packages for the same job. See Deduct production work package capacity from future work packages.

Deduct production work package capacity from future work packages

When you add the actual production work package to the schedule in Tekla PowerFab Go, the system checks to see if there are any future work packages for the same job. You can then deduct the production work package hours and weight from existing future work package reservations, ensuring accurate capacity planning and preventing duplicate bookings.

You can deduct capacity from future work packages both in the workshop view and the department view.

  1. In the Production Planner, select a job.
  2. To open the menu, tap the three dots .
  3. On the menu, tap Offset FWP.

    The Offset FWP dialog opens.

  4. To deduct capacity from the future work package, tap the plus button .
  5. In Deduction, select the future work package from which you want to deduct the capacity.
  6. Tap Apply.

The work package capacity is updated and the hours in the future work package have diminished.

When all the capacity in a future work package has been assigned, the future work package is deleted.

Schedule department work

The department planner in Tekla PowerFab Go Production Planner provides the ability to plan work packages at department level within the selected workshop, which provides a more granular planning experience.

Departments of the same work package can be scheduled to different weeks, the same department can be split over multiple weeks, and different departments can even be scheduled to different workshops.

The department planner displays one workshop at a time, with each department and work area appearing as its own column from left to right.

(1) The selected workshop

(2) Department

(3) Work area

(4) Work package

(5) Capacity

  1. To start planning on the department level, tap the button either:
    • on the selected workshop on the Workshop menu
    • on the selected workshop in the workshop view.
The department planner view for the selected workshop opens.
  2. Drag and drop work packages to the desired week, department, and work area.

A work package can be split over several weeks. See below.

You can also select an action using the three dots.

The icon indicates that the work package has been split over multiple weeks.

A warning appears if you try to schedule or reschedule a work package task in the wrong order based on department numbers.
