Additional databases

Multiple Tekla PowerFab databases can be useful for testing, training, or investigating, for example.

Add additional databases

  1. Open the MySQL Service Manager.

MySQL.Service.Manager.exe can be found in the program installation folder. The default location is C:\Program Files\Tekla\Tekla PowerFab.

  2. Select an existing service in the display grid to clone.
  3. Click Install New Service.

    The Add Service dialog opens.

Service Name: Type a name, do not use spaces. We recommend that you describe the purpose of the new database. For example, TeklaPowerFab_Training.

MySQL Base Directory and Copy From Data Directory: The paths are from the service selected in Step 2. These cannot be changed.

New Data Directory: Specify a location for the new MySQL database data directory. By default, this is populated with with _new added to the Copy From Data Directory path. We recommend that you describe the purpose of the new database. For example data_training.

Nickname (optional): Type a nickname that describes the purpose of the new database.

Port: The port for the new database

  4. Define the properties of the new service.
  5. Click Add service.

The new MySQL database for Tekla PowerFab service has been created and it should start automatically.

Access the additional database

To change between databases, you need to change the Database Connection in the Connection Settings when logging into Tekla PowerFab.

  1. Open Tekla PowerFab.

  2. Click Connection.

    The Connection Settings dialog opens.

  3. Ensure that the IP address is correct for the server running the MySQL database.
  4. In Port, enter the port for the database that you want to connect to.

This is the port that you entered in the Add service dialog when adding the database.

  5. To verify that the connection information has been entered correctly, click Test Connection.
  6. With the correct connection information, click OK.
  7. Log in as you would normally.

The connection settings are saved for the next time you run Tekla PowerFab. If you need to switch to a different database, repeat Steps 2–7 when logging in.
