Shapes

A shape is a steel profile or steel profile family such as wide flange beams (W) and hollow structural sections (HSS). In the Tekla PowerFab material database, you can add, delete, activate, and deactivate shapes You can also add grades, dimensions, and abbreviations for shapes.

Note: The shape list also contains system shapes that you cannot modify. Many of these system shapes may be missing some of the actual shape information, such as material grades or dimensions. These shapes are added for user convenience. You can add material grades or dimensions for the shapes, or deactivate the shapes.

You can use separate shapes for materials that may have the same or similar shape but have different grades. You can use the Tekla PowerFab system shapes for this purpose. Just can add the necessary dimensions or grades for these system shapes.

The shape list in the Shape/Grade/Size Maintenance dialog in Maintenance > Shapes/Grades/Sizes lists all existing shapes in alphabetical order.

Shape: The abbreviations for the material shape. See Manage shape abbreviations.

Description: The name of the shape

Grades: The number of grades included for the shape

Dimensions: The number of dimensions, or material sizes, included for the shape

Activated: Yes indicates that a shape is active within Tekla PowerFab.

Deactivated shapes, marked with No, are not available for combining or pricing.
