Import files to a production control job

When you have exported a fabrication package from a model, you can import it to a production control job in Tekla PowerFab.

When you are exporting an XML file from the Tekla Structures versions later than 2023, you can choose the ZIP file format in Export to Tekla PowerFab. After the export, you can extract the ZIP file, and you can find the exported XML file along with the Tekla 3D model format TRB file.

For instructions on exporting a fabrication package from Tekla Structures, see Tekla PowerFab.

For an end-to-end procedure, see also the support article Tekla PowerFab eXchange Plugin 6.5.

  1. Go to File > Import.

    The Import dialog box opens.

  2. In the navigation tree on the left, select Production Control and the file type that you want to import.
  3. To select the file, click the ellipsis button () and select the file you want to import.
  4. Click Open.
  5. Click Import.
Tip: You can also click Test Import, which simulates the import process and checks for issues but does not actually import any material.

The Production Control Job Edit dialog box opens.

  6. In Job #, either type the number or use the automatically populated number.

This depends on the settings you have in Job # Increment in MaintenanceProduction ControlCompany Standards.

  7. If you have an existing project management job and want to import drawings along with the production control job, select a job in the Project Management Job list.

When you first import a job, type a release number in the Release # field. This way, if you import new items into the job later, Tekla PowerFab will increase the initial release number.

    1. In Project Management Job, select the appropriate job and click Load Info.

      This populates multiple fields.

For more details on the possible next steps, see Import files to Tekla PowerFab.
  8. To import, click Save.

    The Import dialog box opens.

  9. When prompted, click Yes to use the Standard PDC Mappings.

The Import log and Change Summary dialog boxes open.

You can proceed to manage the changes. See Manage changes to a production control job.

You can close the Import dialog box.
